Hey All,
I am looking to do my drop this weekend and I was looking at the TRD instructions for the install (springs are not TRD, was looking for guidance on the work) and I see that its saying we need to remove the wiper arms, wiper motor and cowl just to get to the bolts holding the strut.... I just wanted to know from those who have done your own spring install...did you really have to go through all this or were you able to get them out with out fully taking everything off?... seems like taking the cowl off is more work than removing the actual strut....http://www.scionlife.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif
Also how long of a job am I looking at?... I have a friend who has a garage with air tools and the necessary things needed to do the job, the rears I have heard are like 20 minutes tops! how long is the front with or without removing the cowl...
Any information (relating to this topic of course http://www.scionlife.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_stopit!.gif) would be very helpful.

I am on Hotchkis springs and I put them on... I looked at the TRD instructions just for the sake of looking at something before I started pulling things apart, but really didn't follow them. I did not take the cowl or any of that stuff off and was able to remove the bolts without too much trouble. I think it took about 1 1/2 hrs to install the springs. If you have any other questions just give me a shout.

Thanks Chris! much appreciated man... Yeah I was also looking at the TRD notes just to also know what to pull apart as well- I honestly knew there had to be an easier way to get to them lol,on the strut bolts were you able to use the air ratchet or just a 14mm box wrench and some muscle?

I just used a wrench on the top bolts. Maybe a lil squeeze to get to the back one's but you can manage without removing the cowl. Took maybe a 1/2 for the front and less than 5min for the rear(all you have to do is raise the car by the axel, set jack stands on body, remove bottom bolt on shock, let axel down and the springs will fall out.)

No prob, it's one of the easiest cars I've ever swapped springs on. Chances are you wont have to align it cause your not disassembling where it's adjusted. I checked mine and it was all still within spec and drives perfect! Oh, I have Tannabe df210 springs.

guess i'm slow. took me 3 hours with no air tools. i'd suggest getting an alignment just in case. an alignment is cheaper than replacing tires.

lol I think air tools cut time in 1/2 so yeah no air tools and 3 hrs probably sounds about right....yeah i am also gonna get it aligned but I am gonna get my 100 mile settle period over before I do my alignment.... I lowered my previous car, then aligned it the same day and after 4 months had to realign it....I was told that when springs are installed its best to wait at least 100 miles for them to settle then align it because as its settling it can change the specs a lil cause the more it lowers the more your toe/camber changes.... so yeah I will get it done tho...
With that being said tomorrow is the big day that I go for my install my friend just confirmed today...cant wait!
