Wow just had a thought,

with our move back to California next month, I know that Californias emissions laws are much stricter than most of the rest of the country, in fact where we live, outside ATL we dont even need to get smog checks, but is thier any smog check related issues in regards to CAI's and aftermarket exhaust's that I should be aware or weary of?

Oh Snap, just thought of somthing else, Im gonna have to put a front license plate on my car, that sux!:icon_shout:

Its stright up illegal to have a modified exhaust in cali...Your screwed haha
Like the rest of us. You can chance it like everyone else. Its all up to the cop...CHP highway patrol cops are the worst. I want exhaust, but I dont want the issues of chancing it sometimes.

so to reduce the risk of being pulled over, maybe put my silencer in?

You are going to have to smog the box before you can even get your CA plates...

What I would do is to put the engine back to stock (airbox, catalytic converter (if you have a full custom exhaust), etc) and then get the smog. Once you are passed with that, you can bolt all the mod parts back on and go with it.

If the catalytic converter is still there and unmodified, you should not have any issues with custom exhaust systems on a xB, even with a header installed... but if it is really loud, you do run the risk of a ticket for the loud exhaust.

There are many regions in the state (many of them in regions served by my chapter) that once the initial smog is done when you transfer plates from another state (which requires a smog inspection, no matter where you live), you DO NOT have to get the bi-annual smog checks - One option is to find someone who lives in one of these regions and change your registration address to that location...

You might want to find CARB-approved items as well for your engine mods - many intakes are legal here if they have the sticker, but that also only applies to '05 and earlier xB...

as for what happens if you DO get pulled over for some reason, it really is pretty much up to the cop that gets you and the region you are stopped in - some are gonna be assholes, others will be a lot more lenient...

Best of luck.

Niether cars have had Catalytic converter removed

Mine has full CAI/Header/Axleback exhaust

Bridezilla is Short Ram n Borla

Figure I could probably run my GA plates till August or so till mine expire, I do still have my stock intake and possibly muffler up in my attic, Ill be workin on that attic tomorrow, I guess Ill pack em and if needed pull the old switcharoo for a smog check and use em on both cars just take em in separately

I know you have seen Boxzila, it is not overly loud and I would suspect Monterey County is much like Napa County or Sonoma County where the smog check requirements are less stringent than say an LA or SFO type area
Just sumpn else to check into

Either that or just keep a GA residential addy and license and be considered a "transient worker" LOLOLOL:DanseurJaune:

-CA requires you to register your out of state vehicle to CA within 10 days of establishing residency.

-i would not suggest registering your vehicle in another city or at another address of which you do not live, like aaron mentioned, it could also get you another ticket.

as far as smogging goes, i would suggest you put what you can back to stock. if you have a problem passing, they do give you time to fix it, and retest (or you could find an under the table smog place and avoid any issues, hint hint).

anything that is not stock on the vehicle is a possible violation, though not every cop runs out to find these or just doesn't care. most cops assume this one violation is the open door to finding bigger and better things. they don't care so much about the small VC violations. everyone mentions, which i hate, it's all about the cop. it's more about the attitude and respect shown to the cop. just be nice, friendly, tell them you weren't aware of the laws since you just moved here. if you kiss their ass well enough you might get away with just a warning and a hint to get it taken care of. i work for the bakersfield police department, if you need any or clarification info give me a shout.

isn't living in nazi capital california fun boys and girls?? lol

Totally understand and Thank You Derty!

Thats so funny and its probably the same as here in GA with the police and GSP they see our cars with the Sciko Vinyl, and graphics, pull up next to us and see that me or Cheryl are 45 something years old and think we are like vehicle wraps advertising something :lalala: :lalala: and just drive away

Heck with my new Job I have a 90 probationary period, Ill give California the same benefit as I can always still maintain residency here with either my addy or my folks addy, Id just be considered a transient worker:lalala:like most folks in the central coast and valley area:Musique48:

Brant.. its a xB chances are they wont even see the header...

As long as you have a Cat and a resonator you will be fine, when it comes to the exhaust.

If anything come out do a smog check.. if it fails find out why and go from there... Since you are living in Monterey you might not even have to do a smog other then the initial smog... All depends on your county and area your living in...

I was just gonna suggest that myself. I got a bracket from 808 Customs to put the tag in the lower grille and have had zero problems with. I think it cost 15 bucks and I had it in a few days. No holes will be drilled my bumper EVER!

Thanks Keith,

Yea I looked it up this morning and Monterey County is one that requires every year with your registration so no biggie, was packin my attic today, and I do have the stock exhaust and intake from Boxzila so no worries if I fail, Ill just pop that on and retake.

But I also read on the DMV site that when bringing in a car from out of state before you can reg in California you have to have it "inspected" by either a employee of the DMV, a CHP, or a paid inspection service, it didnt go into what the inspection entailed but it was over and above the smog check, anyone have any ideas what that inspection entails?

Anyone know whatthe Laws are regarding Tint, I know states vary, my tint was dealer installed when I bought the car, Ill have to check my owners manual booklet to verify the %

Its not overly dark, but I know in the southern states they allow a darker tint due to the heat

Height for the headlight can be no lower then 24" or 26" something we dont have to worry about much with xb's

Your ball joint and or lower control arm can not be lower then the buttom of the rim... or they could give you a ticket for that.. but for that to happen you have to have some serous suspension work.
