Some FAQ about antifreeze and LED colors

Antifreeze Colors

Antifreeze comes in a few colors

Red, Blue pink or Green

We like to recommend the highest quality products available.

The color LED should be the same as the antifreeze for best results.

To enhance antifreeze colors a drop or two of food color will add some depth to the color without any adverse reactions

Blue antifreeze is made by BMW and Engine Ice, Engine ice is the absolute best antifreeze our on staff chemist has tested. You can purchase at the Engine Ice website , mention Killerglass when ordering.

BMW is a very dark blue antifreeze and can be purchased at any BMW car dealer.

Green antifreeze is the most common and in our opinion looks the most radical of all colors glowing like a nuclear reactor. Green is made by world famous Prestone.

Dodge/Chrysler also make s dark green antifreeze that looks like lifesaver candy. Can be found at any Dodge dealer

Red and Pink antifreeze Toyota makes two antifreeze colors.

Red is called "long life" antifreeze thats the color of blood.

pn# 00272=1LLAC-01
$21.37 gal (mix with distilled or deionized water)

Pink antifreeze is called "extended life" that comes in most new model Toyota and the Scions.

pn# 00272-5LLC2

$16.82 gal (pre mixed, needs no water)

Hows the installation on those?

killerglass

Hows the installation on those?

Pretty simple

All you need is to wire it in to a switch & use a hair dryer to shrink the clamps, everting your car heats up the clamps tighten themselfs so no need to touch them again. They are made by Gates radiator industrial division & are awsome.

You use your orig rad hose or we reccomend a new one, there only $18. Cut the center out & stick the glass in then re-install it like the picture below (thats not a Scion in the picture same deal though)

We reccomend using the same color LED as the antifreeze you want to use

Hope this helps :)

If you guys just want the basic "Scikotics" logo I will be happy to put that on any order, even single tubes

If you want a custom logo then the "10 part" rule applies as we need to do artwork

Hi All

I'm extremely sorry, I did my math wrong on the price for the glass.
We had it at $230 it should have been $200.

Were also adding the basic Scikotic logo etched in the glass at no charge if you want it.

It has been changed in the first post

They take less then a gallon, Nows a great time to change it

I only use Toyota antifreeze for the red color, it's the best red antifreeze on the market

I reasearched them all

When installing them try & leave extra hose then fit the glass before you put the shrink clamps on, the more hose you use the better the installation is.

What I am saying is if the glass is 8" long only cut 6" of hose out then you can cut more if you need to

Let me see what I can come up with, I think it's a great idea.

We have an in house chemist that may be able to whip up some coloring for the antifreeze

As far as the led's pink is not a primary color & hard to come up with, I know I can do it with an RGB led set but that would double the price of the glass.

Give me a week to research this with a few of my connections, I'm sure we can come up with something cool.

just wondering how these hold up in the Northeast as far as frezzing in the winter months. hot - cold ratio!

No issue what so ever with heat or cold

-------------------------------------

What is Pyrex Glass?

Thanks to a railroad glass scientist needing to create a lantern that got hot but did not shatter when rain or snow got on it we now have pyres glass. The word Pyrex comes from the Greek Word pyro or fire, and Ex which refers to the type of glass. It does not expand or change shape when heated. This may be why Pyrex glass in the 1960s and '70s was used in the windows of the Apollo and Gemini spacecraft.

Composition of Pyrex Glass:
Density (g/cm3) = 2.23000E+00 Mean Excitation Energy (eV) = 134.000000

Properties Of Borosilicate (PYREX 7740) Glass Chemical Resistance Borosilicate glass is inert to almost all materials with the exception of hydrofluoric acid, hot phosphoric acid and hot alkalies. Of these, hydrofluoric acid has the most serious effect and, even when a solution contains a few parts per million, attack will occur. Phosphoric acid and caustic solutions cause no problems when cold but at elevated temperatures corrosion occurs. Caustic solutions up to 30% concentration can be handled safely at ambient temperatures. Physical Properties: Composition Low-expansion borosilicate glass has the following approximate chemical composition:

SiO2 81%
Na2O 4.0%
K2O 0.5 B2O3 13.0%
Al2O3 2.0%

For further details please refer to ASTM E 438, "Standard Specification for Glasses in Laboratory Apparatus." This also makes the pipe easier to field fabricate. Mechanical Strength: The mechanical properties of glass differ from those of metals. The lack of ductility of glass prevents the equalization of stresses at local irregularities or flaws and the breaking strength varies considerably about a mean value. This latter is commonly found to occur at a tensile strength of about 70 kg/cm2 (1000 psi). The glass should be adequately supported and appropriate allowance should be made for special conditions such as high temperatures, dense liquids, etc. Subject to the above, maximum working pressures are as specified in the following table. Working Temperatures Borosilicate glass retains its mechanical strength and will deform only at temperatures which approach its strain point. The practical upper limit for operating temperatures Is much lower and is controlled by the temperature ditterentials in the glass, which depend on the relative temperatures of the contents of the equipment and the external surroundings. Provided borosilicate glass is not subjected to rapid change in temperature, creating undue thermal shock, it can be operated safely at temperatures up to 450?F (232?C). The normal limiting factor is actually the gasket material. The degree of thermal shock (usually defined as sudden chilling) which it can withstand depends on many factors, for example: stresses due to operating conditions; stresses imposed in supporting the equipment; the wall thickness of the glass, etc. It is therefore undesirable to give an overall figure but, as a general guide, sudden temperature changes of up to about 216?F (120?C) can be accommodated At sub-zero temperatures, the tensile strength of borosilicate glass tends to increase and equipment can be used with safety at cryogenic temperatures.

Chemical Hardening

Killerglass is chemical hardened by our three step hardening process to increase the impact resistance of the borosilicate glass 300-400%
Making this the ideal product for severe duty applications.

Is there any chance of getting it with a PINK LED?

:pilot:

Let me see what I can come up with, I think it's a great idea.

We have an in house chemist that may be able to whip up some coloring for the antifreeze

As far as the led's pink is not a primary color & hard to come up with, I know I can do it with an RGB led set but that would double the price of the glass.

Give me a week to research this with a few of my connections, I'm sure we can come up with something cool.

Could you do purple by having red antifreeze with a blue led? Let me check and see what I come up with. How about mixing antifreezes to create different colors.

How about mixing antifreezes to create different colors.

Not advisable, there are 3 different types of antifreeze they use today & need to be kept alone to keep at spec, plus you dont want to have any electrolysis issues.

Let me see what I can do, pink sounds mean

It would still light up whatever color antifreeze your using, if you had red it would be red, etc

They make an almost clear antifreeze (mercedes) that we can put a clear LED in but it will never be clear as water.

Just a bump here

We have changed the design of our glass for incresed performance
I edited the first post to reflect this change

Any questions feel free to contact me
have a great glassy day :)

From: Glass engineering dept
To: Retailers, Distributors

Killerglass came up with a new way to install the LEDs so they can be
easily replaced.

It has come to our attention that while heating the shrink clamps people
have been overheating the LED's during installation causing premature
failure. We cant have this.

We now use a strap system (just like a small black wire tie) that holds
the LED in place and makes it easily changeable if it burns out or you
want a new color.

You can add mutable LEDs also that allow you to make different effects
with the colors.

Warranty Procedure:

Retrofits are available to lights that burn out within 1 year from
purchase.
End user must cut off at the LED & send back to Killerglass the complete original wire harness with the little voltage regulator with what color LED it was.
You will be sent a replacement when that is received.

Just got my glass in the mail today! Gotta wait until my new hose comes in to install it though.

I took it to work to show some doubtfuls and they went ballistic over it! One guy has a CBR600 and wants one on his
bike. I hooked the glass up to our hydraulic test stand's water chiller and ran water through it while holding a blue LED up to it. AWESOME. I think I have some potential customers for you Tim. :D

I have a show at the base this Saturday and hope to have it installed by then. There's always a bunch of PT Cruisers at the show so perhaps they'll be bitten by the bug when I tell em you make em for PTs too. lol

More then just radiator hoses

We just want to show Y'All that killerglass is more then just radiator hoses

Here's a project we completed last week for a seek & find mission south of the Gulf of Mexico

These camera housings are made of the same killerglass material as the hoses for cars.
The engineering for these tubes were to withstand depths of 2000', here is a picture of them at 3000' at the bottom of the ocean, 1000' deeper then designed. Your killerglass hoses spec out about the same if the ends were sealed.

If you need camera housings for 3000' depths, call us :D

They take very little amperage, those wires are rated 400% past the actual requirement.

He doesn't have a SC tC, but ya you would think that method would work best. Tim has always been very fast with shipping for everyone else, something screwy must have happened.

How do Pyrex glass dishes do in the freezer?

jwaj2002
10-23-2007, 09:08 PM
they get really really cold

I would imagine since it said on my paperwork - 90 degrees c, just fine, but if your worried about it taking a bit longer for your car to warm up, you could wrap the glass in some heat resistant cloth and tape it on
