Well, I'd like someone to verify this but a friend was telling me that if I drivce in 3rd and not "D" it conserved mileage...

And then the simple maintenance things like clean air filter, properly inflated tires and oil change...

Mod wise though...? Not too sure...

But yeah... Sheep will bang you for a buck. And if you're short a few cents, no problems. He isn't worried.

:rofl2:

Hell, he'd bang anyone for the lint in their pocket!

Hey, Homey don't play that...... *slaps her with his sock* (I wonder if anyone will get that reference......)

You can always do that killer engine swap with a 1.5L Honda engine that was mentioned in a SL thread......guy seriously wanted to do that......

hell, sheep will bang ya for free if you ask nicely and let him be the man for the night ...
dont know about t being a "best bang" kinda thing .... but whatever works for you

you caught me whiel I was replying ti Jyl ..

I unno about mods to improve mileage ... that cyclone/typhone thing for your air filter is supposed to help, but if you have a CAI/SRI i dont think it'll fit? I unno ... best thing I can tell ya is lay off the gas pedal, keep RPMs under the 3k mark, and crusie about 2500, nice and easy.

i don't wanna know what sheep is going to be banging...lol :rofl2: but yeah layin off the gas pedal is your best bet, but yea the clean filter and right tire pressure and oil can improve the gas mileage.

Those actually don't work... creates more turbulance in the intake than there already is and the air doesn't flow correctly. There was a story from car and driver or some magazine that tested a bunch of those type of things.

Opinions regarding sriving in 3 vs D?

Anonymous
05-11-2006, 02:52 PM
D should be smart enough to know when to shift so you don't have to drive in 3.

He was thinking to imporve milage but that would actually decrease I think. Would keep the engine at higher revs to maintain speed and suck mroe gas......

now i might be setting myself up for flaming with this comment...but referencing to The Fast and The Furious  is there really a "stand alone fuel management system"???? :|

aZepolyn
05-11-2006, 04:33 PM
yes, i operates seperate from and overites your ECU. We have several piggy back systems for the scions, but I think only maybe one or two true standalones for the tC. guess is as good as mine on xB/xA, havent paid attention ... they certainly arent bang for the buck, or reasonably priced either ...

anyone more versed on the electronics aspect enilghten as to if this would be able to improve mileage anyways?

If you run lean you could boost the amout of milage you get but you would have less power.......

Run rich=more power but more fuel used.....

Yeah, Driving in 3 will suck gas and wear the engine more. Constant higher RPM's...

The only thing to do is to step on the accelerator lightly, granny shift, and use the cruise control wherever possible.

I've always heard that cruise control actually jacks with mpg some...

Not really...keeps you at a more steady RPM......

Then why bother giving us that dumbass post saying the cruise messes with milage....... :P

Krdshrk

It's a steady throttle... much better on gas than your foot constantly changing the rpm's... even a little fluctuation like that will kill it. I try to use CC whenever I can.

aZepolyn
05-12-2006, 10:28 AM
well ... it can make it worse, depend son the scenario
for isntance ... in my mom's expedition, riding in cruise to my brother's place out in the country. We hit some hills that when its in cruise,t he auto actually downshifts and RPMs and acceleration jumps bc its trying to get back to cruise speed. w/o cruise you could have gradually made that acceleration, or even just let the car slow down up the hill and let off the gad completely going down.

Krdshrk
05-12-2006, 10:37 AM
That's in a Ford...

You don't know our tC's have a good CC? It will sense the hills and road conditions and adjust accordingly. Throttle by wire.... not some cheapie ford!

lol .. hell if I know that, I drive the 5sp, I kick it in cruise and it cant shift :md:

Sudden start & stops are the main gas guzzler. Get on the gas as late as possible & off the gass as soon as possible

If you were able to hook a vacume gauge into your intake manifold plenum, you could while at cruising speed try to keep it at the highest vacume reading, this will be your best milage besides any fuel/ignition mods.

I plan on getting a motorcycle for commuting soon.......does that count?

tCMetaLFReaK

No, a motorcycle's gas consumption is not much different than 30mpg really. Uses less gas, but its also a smaller tank so you might be gaining a little more mpg if not breaking even.

Talked to a few people that are getting close to 50 mpg with theirs......
