No no no.......JDM and tC do NOT belong in the same sentence. That is my single biggest pet peeve in the Scion community is the use of "JDM tC". You have a very clean car and it looks really well done, but please, don't use "JDM" to describe your car.

I think that's what confuses alot of people. Tc's are made in Japan but not sold there.
Nice, clean ride though!

Yes, the tC is made in Japan, but there is no JDM equivilant. The tC is a domestic only with means there is no JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) counterpart. It is like Japanese kids trying to create an "American Style" Skyline. There are no Skylines sold in the US (spare me the imported Skylines and MotoRex arguments) so you can not have a USDM Skyline.

All JDM means is that you want your car to look like a stock car that is sold in Japan. I don't understand the whole JDM thing. :-|

I also get a kick out of those decals. Not sure if you realize it or not, but all that decal means is that you are a young, inexperienced driver. People over here that roll with those on their cars make me laugh because they are insulting their driving ability.

Why argue with the guy about this. Let him call it JDM if he wants. They may not make a JDM tC, but it sure has hell doesn't mean he can't put some JDM style into it.

Excellent pics by the way. What kind of camera did you use.

last I checked the motor-fx guys were still in jail. I'm with you guys jdm TC doesn't mix but hey these days alot of people claim JDM hondas and they are made right here in the states. anyway If you wanna go a diffrent route and go for japanese style with deep lip rims ect thats cool I just would choose my wording a little better and say going for a japanese look your car looks clean and it's off to a good start. I can think of tons of parts that would make it look more japanese if thats the route you decide to take. To me your tC is alot better than alot of these cheverolets I see around here with japanese license plates on the front rear wings and messed up kits. I think your building a clean looking ride and I like it. I'm not gonna give you flack first off because you didn't know second off in a few years most of the scions will be made here in the states. Lastley I like a clean looking car and so far it looks really good. your rim choice is really going to make you or break you with the looks. so I say keep up the good work and lets not be so harsh on the guy we all make mistakes lord knows I made a few when I came onto the forums it almost scared me away. so welcome to the forums and keep up the good work.

last I checked the motor-fx guys were still in jail.

I don't think the guys went to jail, MotoRex just lost their license to import cars because of improper safety testing on some of the cars they were importing. I love RX-7's and was looking into them about possibly importing a J-spec second gen turbo RX-7 for a while. That was right around the time they got in trouble though.

And regarding the civics, yes, they are made in the states, but are still sold in Japan. In that case, you can have JDM civics because they are sold there. The tC is made over there, but only sold in the US. That makes it USDM only with no JDM counterpart.

Like I said before, I am not trying to be an ass to this original poster. It is one of my biggest pet peeves and I just wanted to let him know that there is no such thing as a JDM tC.

All wrong, the TC is a JDM car. just becasue they dont have it in japan doesnt mean its jdm. The car is produced and assembled 100% in Japan not after shit crap of Mexico, canada or USA. The car is shipped built and ready from japan making it JDM sukas

Just because it's Japanese engineering doesn't automatically make it from the Japanese Market. A lot of things made in Japan are only sold in the USA, like Scions

exactly a lot of major companies put their factories in japan because of their production rates and their cheap labor. toyota is just such a case. much cheaper to make scions in japan and import them into american then make them here.

JDM implies that it is sold in japan. JAPANESE DOMESTIC MARKET. NOT MADE IN JAPAN.

final assembly is done in Portland, Oregon...which is in the great US of A.

But JDM refers to the japanese domestic market. Since the tC is not SOLD in the japanese domestic market, it cannot be JDM. Granted the car was designed and preliminary assembly started in Japan, but it doesn't mean anything.

But in all fairness, building a "JDM" car just means that you mod it the same way they mod it in Japan. What's considered to be in-style in Japan is what they commonly refer to as being JDM. So if a badgeless grille and carbon fiber hood are in-style in Japan, technically he's using JDM styling cues. It doesn't make his car JDM, but he's adding JDM style to it.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that the tC will never actually be JDM, but the mods will be.
