Independant throttle body or ITB means that each cylinder gets its own throttle bottle and air sensors. You usually see this in hot rods.

ITB = Individual Throttle Body ... instead of having one throttle body for your engine, you have one throttle body PER cylinder. They give better throttle response, more efficient, and typically more horsepower. They can be a PITA to tune and can get real expensive really quickly.

if I am not mistaken from reading threads on this to do the mods on the XA and the XB they use hyabusa ones for our engines I know there is a company in hawaii that makes them I have never seen any dyno numbers from one of these setups or a vid for a scion. I think they originally came out for show and just to do something diffrent which they definentley acomplished.yeah i heard getting them sychronized and keeping them that way has been the biggest issue with them of course this is all just from word of mouth.

Heads up the ITB setup yields higher horse but kills torque. This is a general rule of thumb the shorter the intake runner the higher the hp you can achieve, the longer the more torque. Keep in mind each engine is different and when I say shorter and longer I don't mean going extreme with it either. I just mean comparing it to the factor intake and most of the oem intakes are typically as long as they can be and benefit you. So keep this in mind. I just noticed you have a XB I am not sure the OEM size tb for those. But typically with bolt ons you can go up 5-7mm, 5-10mm with bolt ons and internals, 5-15mm with boost depending on boost levels.

This is a very nice HP set-up. I can imagine using Hyabusa carbs on there, with a little work making them richer.

As far a upkeep, this is not a set it and forget it mod. However, with a VERY little learning curve and a wideband sensor, will net another 20+ hp for your xB.
