Hey - I've got a scion xA (2004 5sp. manual) with a bum engine. I am looking at possibly getting a used one as a replacement. Can I use any 1nz-fe engine (different year, model, car, auto tranny, whatever), or am I limited to particular engines to get a clean swap?

2004-2005 Scion xA / xB are complete plug and play. The 2006 knock, water temp and VVT oil controller sensor won't plug into the 2004-2005 harness, but you can put your old sensors in the new block, the sensor holes are the same. Not sure about the echo or Yaris. Manual or automatic will work, you'll just need to pull the flywheel from your old engine if you get a block from an auto.

No problem, I did this with mine. 2006 xB, put a 2005 xB motor in. Check out here for good prices on used engines.

What year is the computer? The 06 ECU also is not compatible with the 04-05.

it's the 06 computer that came with the engine. If you swap both, will it work? i got the whole wiring harness, computer, all engine components, but no tranny

has anyone swapped any motors into a tc besides another tc motor? and besides the pros lol
I'm sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I saw that it was claimed that the sensors can be swapped between the engines, however, the knock sensor on my 04 is a one wire sensor and the 06 is a two wire sensor and the sensors themselves don't swap over from the looks of it.
What would the solution be to this if anyone knows? I have searched any and all scion forums but there is no info on this.
