On a scale of 1-10 how hard do you guys who have tCs think it was to remove and re-cover your headliners? This is something I'd like to do, but am hesitant to destroy it and/or the shades since these are such expensive items and my car is still pretty much brand new...
If I do this, the shades HAVE to be done as well!

how do u remove the slides i was tryin today but couldnt get it
under the head liner. and then I had to remove the side air bags. There are just a couple nuts (i think) and then the whole thing comes out. Down the middle there is a long piece were both shades roll up into. Don't take the shades out of this cuz then the spring part can get all messed up. Black works the best and you can get even coverage. I know someone the used gray and had some real issues.

It can be tricky. My wife (Wild_Rose) did mine and she is working on her 3rd and 4th now. It really depends on how crafty you are.... and the fabric. You want something that is thick enough that the gluw wont come through and if you can get something that is a little stretch that would be really good. The spray headliner glue sucks DONT USE IT. My wife uses tacky glue (to take down the edges) and fabric tack (for the main part). She was this down to a science so send her a PM.

I would like to redo my headliner in a black material - but I want it to be the same stock material or something very similiar - not felt or anything different.
Has anyone tried to dye [not spray] their headliner before? Or does anyone have a hookup where a headliner supplier would be?
TartanJack
01-18-2010, 09:50 PM
That black fabric that matches the seats would look good, esp. on a tC.
On the xB2s, the headliners are felt permalayered onto shaped foam. So, that would make a difference as to how one would dye them.
Unrelated to the above post . . .
Just to let xB2 owners that read this thread know. The headliner on those is 8 FEET long front-to-back and not much under 5 feet wide. So, you NEED material close to 60" wide (54 won't fit) and NO less than 8 feet long, get minimal 8'6". That is A LOT to manipulate and maneuver when applying, plus a LOT of area if you plan to paint it. Plus, there are a lot of contour shaping, as can be seen in my tartan-> note how the pattern contorts around the sides. It is much more than it looks like solid.
Be prepared.

Well I guess my biggest issue is actually getting hold of a spool of the actual headliner - apparently they are hard to match I am told?

Just finished my headliner and pillars yesterday. Also did my door panels. Will upload pics soon. Did black crushed velour for the headliner and green crushed velour for the pillars and door panels. Gotta agree with Tartan Jack, the headliner is quite a project in the xb2. Very big piece, PITA to get in and out.
A little tip for those wanting to wrap their xb2 headliner, lay the fabric out over the whole thing, and pull half of it back. Then spray with the adhesive on both the back of the fabric and the headliner. Then carefully spread it and mold it to the contours and do the other half.

Wrapping the pieces really isn't too difficult. Just take your time with it.
You gotta be careful taking the a pillars out though. There's a black tab you have to twist with needle nose pliers. Pull the piece loose and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'm thinking satin brocade for my xB2. like the interior of that crasy Bosu (sp?) It doesn't have any stretch though, so I don't know if I'm up to the challenge. Think it's possible? What I want is not available in 60, but a tailor shop can piece it for me cheaply ( I know I can't sew that straight).
Thanks for the dimensions, TJ.

Hey.. congrats on the future purchase.. i'm not sure how the new headliners come out, but see if you can hook up with a local Scikotic group and i'm sure one of them can help you. Also, you can search the web for scion manuals to take the headliner out, then it's just a matter of coverind the old with the new..

I know I have asked this before but most of you guys that just change the fabric or do shag, where do you get the fabrics from? Local shops or just online? Most of the stuff I've found (which I've only looked at like walmart) only has like thin materials that I wouldn't ideally use. Haven't tried a fabric store yet but just getting an idea.
sturang wonder
06-10-2010, 08:06 AM
I used to get my Fabric at Walmart but they have since stop selling for some strange reason.
Local Fabric stores are your best bet because you need to actually feel and see the fabric in person. Pictures can alter they way the fabric really looks.

My wife, Wild_Rose, is really the expert for our club but the main thing that I can tell you is that the back of the fabric needs to be tightly woven. The glue will come through if not. Also, if the fabric has some give to it (stretchyness) that will make you life much easier.
Here is a pic of mine. Not very good but it's hard to get a really good pic anywhere in the interior:

I am sure this has been asked before, but what is the demensions of the tC headliner? Mainly the width.
I don't know off the top of my head but I can tell you that a standard role of fabric is wide enough to do it (typically 54in or so). Mine is all one piece of fabric front to back.
ScIkO*FaErY
06-10-2010, 11:39 AM
tc headliner is 54in if im not mistaken if ur going for a non stretchy material look for 56in or wider
and you need about 7-8 yards to do the headliner door etc :)

It takes, at MINIMUM:
55" wide (54 might barely make it if you align very carefully)
8 feet front to rear (get 3 yards, which is 9 feet)

Hey guys, I really want to start a new project on the tc and i think headliner would be a great way to go. So for anyone who has done theres can you send me as much info as possible, Like what kind of meterials you used. How much fabric is needed, Maybe A DIY instruction if anyone has the time to walk me through it. This will be my first time doing something like this so any info would be great. Im Planning on going with either a black fabric or Plaid. So thanks in advance for any help.

i wouldn't do it all white, that would be hella hard to keep clean, especially during the install itself. personally, i would choose a fabric that has a pattern with white in it. that will make the white stand out best under the uv.

How hard is it to take the headliner out of the first gen xb because I really want to do this to mine?
^not hard at all!!!
10mm bolts in the oh shit handles, phillips screws in the visors, base of mirror and lid on dome light pops off for more phillips, a few poppers towards the rear, pull the weather stripping off the upper parts of the doors and hatch, A-pillars pop right out, i think a 14(?)mm for the 4 seatbelts, then the remaining pillars pop out and your good to go! lol looks like alot now that i wrote it all down, but doesnt take long at all

couple question one is how do you go about rapping the sun visors, also if i want to paint the plastic parts in my car what kind of paint should i use.
Captain N

You would probably have to sew the visors. As for painting interior parts check out the DIY section on here they have a write up on how to do that

Man I can't wait for some warmer weather. This Is definitely on my to do list early this spring..
You guys just use 3m spray adhesive right? Used that for wrapping my system worked good.
And u go right over your stock headliner?
Wild_Rose
01-28-2011, 11:42 AM
The 3m 77 is better, not the trim adhesive a yes u can go right over the stock headliner
Kid Morbid
01-28-2011, 12:05 PM
Yah I think I used like the 95 strength. If that's what you meant by 77 lol.
I'm looking to do crushed velvet most likely, Green and Black. One color on pillars one color on headliner. I'd like to try and get the visors also wrapped in whatever I do my pillars in.
Wild_Rose
01-28-2011, 12:15 PM
If it's crushed velvet the glue can bleed through, the 77 strength bleeds through less that's all, buy a sample before u start and test the glue

Gotcha. I went ahead and bought my fabric. Black crushes velvet and some green 'soft and comfy' which is something like it. I got plenty tho so I'll test some glues when I start.
Gonna try and maybe wait for a semi warm week and do it in my heated garage. Shouldnt be that bad

Actually, I used a spray fabric paint I got from a hobby store.
I drew out and cut the stencil from poster board.

I have to probly order a new tube for my underglow.. 2 winters in a row now moisture i guess from snow or something has gotten in and messed it up -.-. I'd take them off before winter if the whole wire didn't have to come out as well.. Needs to be d/cable at the tube. Oh well..
On subject.. If this weather holds out I'll end up doing my headliner hopefully. I will probably pick up some glue tomorrow while at work and test it on the fabric to see if it comes through any on cardboard or something. Just ordered my clazzios so its like a new mod a week right now.. It's awesome for feb. lol.

1 Fuck winter and underglow. I had tubes last year and broke all of them. This year I used led strips and one is half out from the snow.
2. Headliner re-do is a big improvement on the interior. Def test the glue. We did mine and you can see the wavy lines of the glue.
3. Clazzios are amazing but also take for ever. I ordered mine last year and it took them 15 weeks and I only order the front two seats because I deleted my back seat.
