Does anyone know where I can find info on taking the dash and center console apart on a tC? I want to do some lighting mods, painting and install a short shifter. I want to remove them with as little damage as possible

start at the shifter surround. put your fingernails on the edge of the plastic and CAREFULLY pull up. If you pull too hard, you'll yank the lighter cable off.
Then, use your finger nails just above the air vents on the instrument panel. Again be CAREFUL with the AC unit cables, you'll need to disconect these.
The part around your parking brake comes up if you pull on the opening. Sorry, I don't have pics here, but this is not very hard.
good luck!

Thanks for your help. Is the instrument cluster just as easy? Are there any hidden screws I need to know about on either part?

good luck man
(since you said with as little damage as possible, my idea for using a sawzall s out of the question)

The center consol, once you have the area around the shifter out, comes out rather easily. Just place your hand in the the area where there is a cubby hole and slowly pull the consol forward. It all comes out as one piece. Oh, and it helps a lot to have your radio cover closed.
Now the dash is a good question. I've been trying to figure that out for a while now.

if you are talking about where the gauges are.......Just pull the housing around it and it will pop off....Remember, we drive legos.......There are some screws holding in the plastic cover over the gauges.
If you go to SL they have a DIY on how to remove all of it....with pics

Yeah, now if only we could find out where to get some spare parts for the interior...
