I'm looking to buy a new HU for my tC and I'm worried some features may not work anymore. For example the steering wheel controls and iPod connection.

I've been leaning toward the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 because the stock HU is Pioneer. But I'm reading some things on the web that the Kenwood P-Nav6019 is comparable if not a little better than the Pioneer. I'm just worried that I wouldn't be able to use the iPod connection or steering controls with the Kenwood.

iPod connection I KNOW won't work, and I could probably buy the interface down the road.

isnt tehre a conversion bracket for soem of the major units to work with the steerling controls and such?

Mine had to have a switch. It knew if I just grounded it. Besides, now if I get pulled over, I hit the switch and VOILA....no more movie.......

Tinted windows prevent that for me!!! :rofl2:

Wonder if the cop will wonder why you are watching a blue screen that says you cant do that while driving :?

I got super tinted windows but the screen is bright enough to see it still.........

And I would hit the switch and flip to radio.......then if he asks about the movie I would hit DVD and show him the blue screen.......

Ok, so I installed the stereo... Everything looks great... clean install! I just have some minor finishing touches that I didn't want to do while I was tired and pitch black out. So I finish up the major parts and I go to close the console door... um... doesn't stay closed! I didn't buy a mounting kit because the Kenwood instructions elluted to the fact that you can use the factory mounts which went on so smoothly.

Bleh... anyone else run into this? Did you drill into the mounting brackets or use an aftermarket mounting kit?

sarsippius

you have to drill new holes in the mounting brackets. Again scion life has a thread on it.

Kenwood Double-Din Touchscreen DVD Player

can anyone recommend a double din (without tape player) that is reasonably priced below $350.00. I don't need navi and a HD in my HU since I running a fricking Mac mini. It seem all the double din HU double in prices 500.00 up.

Any double din HU will be a dvd touchscreen. Any one of them under $750 won't be of good quality. You might want to just get a small LCD screen.

whatmovesu
05-13-2006, 10:30 AM
not I don't need a lcd I already have one. I just need a HU for sound. I don't care about features just if it has AUX in (RCA format)

I've been liking Kenwood products. I just found one that would be up your alley and its even compatible with the bluetooth phone adapter thats coming out in July (KCA-BT100)-

mayybe i didnt see the answer to the original question, but there are components out there to retain steering wheel controls. scosche makes one but i dont know if its compatible with scions, its the swc1, and there are all kinds of ipod interfaces that link straight up to the hu. kenwood, pioneer, jvc, alpine.....they all have em. any questions, hit me up, im the lead installer for best buy. we order these all the time. if i dont know the answer i shoould be able to find it. hope this helps.
