View Full Version : Still need power for HIN!

So the paperwork STILL isn't up to "rent" power at HIN show in San Mateo on MARCH 10th. You'd think that if this is the only way to run power to your car that they would be a little more on top of things with this issue. Maybe it just seems difficult to me cuz i've never done it before. Sounds like other people (in NorCaL) have it down, but i just don't get it! I DID look up some power CONVERTERS last night online, but i doubt i can get it in time for the show (since it's on the 10th) AND get in touch with the electric company to run my individual power cable to my car. The whole reason i'm going is to support Tim with KillerGlass. We'll be at his booth, but how much sense does it make to show my KillerGlass if i don't have power to run the damn LED lights on the glass!~ haha.. Oh well, if anyone can make this easier for me, i'de really appreciate it. Hook a first timer up YA?!?

:FROM TIM @ KILLERGLASS:
I assume we'll have some power because they have a couple halogen lamps for out booth. I know there are huge issues with the Unions, fire marshall etc about running electric from past expierence.

look up power inteli. Eujin and I have been talking over the past 2-3 weeks about getting him setup for the same HIN show. He got his converter and it will arrive monday. If you order by the end of the week, you'll more than likely have yours by the 10th.
HIN Miami never put up a form for power up online. The day of the roll in (day before the show) i brought the tC in and searched the convention center. The power company had a small table with a couple of computers set up in the corner and they were taking orders for power. My power cable was run the morning of the day of the show. It just so happens that i had an ethernet connection too :P internet at HIN? awwwww yeah!

NOPE not yet.. but i found a few good sites to get them. That was cash that i was gonna spend on light but.. guess thats not happenin'!! hmm.. anywho, im still workin' on gettin' the converter.. i really dont have the money, but i'll figure it out.
Oh and a NEW problem now, my freakin' headlight went out cuz my connector melted.. or something.. so i think its shorting out. Not sure if i should just get another connector and SPLICE it in or what. (thats the easier/cheaper option)

ok late night update:
the 4gauge wiring doesnt fit the screw terminals...sooooo i had to look for some banana connectors, cuz those are the right connections for the terminals on the power supply...the only problem is, i had to find one that fit the thick 4gauge wiring. i took my chance and landed these...let the pics do the talking (i'm gonna test it out tomorrow)

those banana connectors i bought have a big opening that BARELY fits the 4gauge wiring, i'm talking barely like the strands of wire 1 by 1. but it fits snug if cut the right amount of wire. then i just secured it really well with electrical tape, it doesnt budge or is loose at all. :)
thats my go with it

Test it out...
See thats why I was worried about that type and recommended the type I know works..
Hope it works out for you.

so heres another update. the power supply works really good. i turned all my lighting on, and my system up 70% volume with the gain turned up all the way to see how man amps it would suck...it was constantly hitting 18amps, with LOTS of headroom to spare for other components.
i'm satisfied with my purchase :)

OK here's the deal on power
Link to order it
http://www.hotimportnights.com/media/events/203_Electrical_Forms.pdf
Where it says what booth # just put in "Car Row"
Fax the form back to the address on the form (you need adobe PDF the read it)
This is an independent company that handles it, NOT HIN
Do it asap
When you arrive at the show there will be a smal booth that says "electrical" give them a copy of your form, contract or any other info you mailed and they will set you up with power.
There are different power levels from like 500 watts to 50 amps depending on what you need.
I am enclosing the form in a download in case the link goes bad
Hope this helps:toast:

Damn, this is gonna be an expensive show.
QUESTIONS:
1. Can i get ONE last ruling on this?!?.. Is it possible for me to share power with someone or do i just need to spend the $150 to run my own?
2. I'm pretty much LOST on filling this electrical form out..If i'm running audio/video system (7 monitors, 3 sub, not full blast and maybe some lights) Do i need the 1000watt outlet or just the 500watt outlet from the wall? Do i just fill out the "Electrical Service" at the top of the form or what?? Holy shit, i needed to see this like MONTHS ago.. guess i know now that indoor shows are a HUGE pain and pretty damn expensive. I was actually goin' to order some lights before the show, but i think thats outta the question now. Maybe i'll just bring a little battery to run my KillerGlass and leave everything else off!
