...anyone have any idea how much gas is left in the tank when that comes on? Hehe I came to work and the light turned on....wonder if I can make it back without running out of gas. It is a 15 mile drive btw.:mro:

you might be ok. there must be a gas station in those 15 miles though, i would fill up as soon as possible

You'll be fine. When my fuel light comes on, it typically takes around 12 gallons to fill up. We have a 14.5 gallon tank in our car.

you might want to fill up to be on the safe side. When MafiaMike came down last year (i know, who the hell is Mafia Mike) he didn't make it very far after his light came on. Chad had to go pick him up take him to get gas.

Yeah there are gas stations...but there a bit ways off the freeway you know? So I get a bit reluctant....and especially when I am trying to avoid traffic. Thats why I asked. I will see if my baby can take me home all the way! Wish me luck! :p

2 gallons. thus 40 ish miles. or 50 if your on the intrastate.
suryad
02-14-2007, 11:48 AM
If its 2 gallons then I can safely say 60 miles for me. Thanks all.
I get around 29-30 mpg almost every time.

the other day i ran mine PAST the EMPTY line cuz there were no gas stations for like 30 miles.. scared the crap outta me cuz i was driving up hill with the it ALREADY on the EMPTY line.. i was very surprised that i made it that far with it already on empty. I think when i filled up, it was just over 14gal. YIKES!!!

Well ladies and gents I have made it home safe and with a gallon and a half to spare. I needed to fill up 13 gallons. Now I know!

14.5 Gallon Tank. Gas light turns on when there's about 2.5 left.
suryad
02-15-2007, 07:52 AM
Yep now I know! :p
might light turns on all the freaking time... I always forget to put gas, so I just make sure I fill it up about 20 miles after it's been on.

IF YOU floor it and you sputter, your about empty, i almost always see how low i can go, like kramer in seinfeld, when its right between the dash and the light, you are very close, i dont even think about gettin gas til its below the last dash and im sputtering round turns:-D
HammeredRooster
11-30-2007, 10:27 AM
I have an 07 tC and have drove mine til the needle was pointing at the middle of the light before i stopped for gas. once you get pretty low and you try to floor it, the throttle wont engage at all. I havent made it sputter or die yet
tCMetaLFReaK
11-30-2007, 10:48 AM
Really should be careful doing that, you're engine won't last very long. Usually its best to fill up around the half tank mark.
Krdshrk
11-30-2007, 11:09 AM
Seriously - you shouldn't do that at all. When you get that low, you get down to the residue in your gas tank and you're sucking impurities and stuff into the fuel filter.
I fill at 1/4 tank.
HammeredRooster
11-30-2007, 11:54 AM
I usually dont even give the light a chance to come on but i was in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night on my way home from a show and nothing was open.
JoshCrane1
11-30-2007, 01:54 PM
WEll ive done it since the car was new, and thats why there is a fuel filter right? what about the flip side, you never let your tank get below 1/4 and a couple years go by and now instead of a little deposit in the bottom of the tank you have a shitload cuz that little by little never gets flushed out. i know its not good to let the engine sputter, but as far as letting it get that low, which is worse?
fightinsk8ers
11-30-2007, 02:03 PM
it has never died on me but has sputtered when it gets low yeah i usually wait until it gets low and everytime i fill it up it only takes about 12 gallons so there is abotu 2 left so yeah if its low you can make it!
JoshCrane1
11-30-2007, 02:07 PM
but im saying which is worse, letting it get it get that low all the time and sucking up those diposits little at a time compared to never letting your gas get that low and one day you do and suck up a cat or hairball or something big thats been accumulating?
tCMetaLFReaK
11-30-2007, 03:09 PM
I think either way, you're going to get some impurities. Fuel=Debil!
Toastid_Metal
11-30-2007, 05:25 PM
Haha yah it'll def. last ya. I push mine to the limit all the time, and I know it's not a good thing to do, but sometimes I have to. Lol. I've had mine below the last line, I have yet to run out though *crosses fingers* hope I don't jinx myself haha.

To help with that MPG situation, start using full synthetics. I use Royal purple oil 5-20 in my tC and i get around 36- 38 MPG in my tC with no mods and it also helps with the hp too. it may take alittle extra money but you will see and feel the change. EX- i took a trip from Louisiana to Texas and was only 15 miles away from 400 miles on a full tank but i dident want to risk it so i refilled. in other words its worth it.

Yeah, but can a synthetic oil really make that much of a difference in gas mileage? and what are the downsides to a synthetic oil?
Krdshrk
12-03-2007, 09:24 AM
Synthetic oil won't do anything for you in terms of gas mileage. Plus, unless he typoed, he's using lighter weight (thinner) oil than you're supposed to... that's not necessarily a good thing for the engine.
There are no downsides to synthetic except for the cost. You'll pay more for synthetic than conventional oil.
crank_101
12-03-2007, 09:27 AM
dont you have to flush your engine then convert to sythetic?
i know my srt-4 i couldn't just throw synthetic in it, i had to flush and make sure all the "thick stuff" was out before i could throw in the synthetic.
Krdshrk
12-03-2007, 09:30 AM
New synthetic oils will blend ok with older conventional oil. I changed mine, myself. I drained out all of the old conventional oil, and left the drain plug out, then i put about a quart of synthetic through to get as much of the old stuff out as possible and let it drain out. Then I put the drain plug back in and filled up normally. After 1 or 2 more oil changes, you should be on full synthetic.
crank_101
12-03-2007, 10:05 AM
for the tc which synthetic should i buy? or should i stick to the stufff thats in it right now ?
Krdshrk
12-03-2007, 10:09 AM
Mobil 1 Synthetic, Quaker State Q Power, Royal Purple (Expensive), Amsoil (Even more expensive)..
Stay away from the partial synthetics and synthetic derivatives (Synthetic based on conventional) like Castrol.

how expensive? lol
Krdshrk
12-03-2007, 10:33 AM
Amsoil: $7.40/ quart
Royal Purple: $7.25/ quart
Compared to about $5-6/quart for Mobil 1 or Q Power.

12-03-2007, 10:38 AM
by switching to synthetic you are not getting better gas mileage correct?
and its okay to blend old with synthetic? just double checking, would the synthetic be better for the engine?
HammeredRooster
12-03-2007, 11:08 AM
Yeah, what are the ups to using a synthetic? I do alot of stop and go driving for my job and lots of in and out of the car.
Krdshrk
12-03-2007, 11:19 AM
Synthetic is much better for the engine. You can mix, but not a lot. I only mixed whatever was left in the engine after i drained the oil pan, which is not much at all... Synthetic will blend with conventional oil just fine for the 1 or 2 oil changes that'll leave the synthetic in.
The up-sides to synthetic oil are simple - it won't break down like conventional oil. This is perfect for F/I applications; If you leave hot oil inside a turbo or supercharger, it can break down and "coke" inside.... which would be bad. Synthetic oil flows better in cold temperatures, has higher resistance to heat (won't break down), is more lubricated and contains less impurities than conventional oil.
You can go longer miles without oil changes if you're not F/I :)

yea tincan actually made sure to find out how much time and miles u got left till u run out of gas. he said it was like 45 miles as soon as the fuel light comes on. but that could be dif with each car. so id say an average of 35 to 40 between everyones tcs

Starting to wonder if I need to have the car looked at after seeing everyone else's numbers. I get like 180-200 miles a tank.

The last tank of gas that I had, I got 370 miles out of it... about 3/4 of it was highway driving, but the rest was in the city, with a quite heavy foot! I figured it out and I got about 29 mpg, with custom exhaust and about 100lbs of audio in the trunk, so I'm happy with it!

yea i get about 27 usually and i got racing thermo, intake, axel back which will change soon, 18s, no beat yet but 400w amp hooked up, air diversion panel which doubt makes any dif and the rest is misc..., but yea i drive reasonable, but i do get on it a lot. idk fellas might want to get that checked out. my friend had supercharger, weapon r supercharger intake, tsudo headers, with trd axel back, nst pulley for the s/c with 9.5psi on the it, 18s, and a shit load of amp shit, and misc stuff and he was getting about 27-28 too.

It all depends on how you drive.
Also - A lot of gas stations have switched to their "winter mix" for gas... which tends to have less gas and more additives so that the fuel doesn't freeze. It also lowers gas mileage!

30 cents more isnt too bad, considering 30 cents equals maybe 2.5 more miles per gallon. given 25mpg.
x14 =35 miles. so your only talkin 35 miles per tank more than me at the equilvalent price.
