I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience taking their xB cross country. I used to have a Grand Am and that thing cruised at like 2000rpm at 60 (and still managed to break down monthly...lol). Ive owned my xB for about a year now and ive gotten sortof used to the relatively high rpms (about 3500 at 70), but i was wondering if anyone has heard of anything bad happening to the engine after prolonged high rpm usage. I am planning on driving it from Indiana to Montana and back (2000-3000 miles). I use synthetic oil that is ritualistically changed every 3000 and i also have synthetic gear oil. thanx

the engine should be fine. although its not really geared for long freeway driving, it should be fine. just crank up the radio.

curise control and an armrest do wonders for a road trip.

I have an automatic which has the extra gear and it's an XA I hauled but to key west a month ago and when I got back I had to have my valves adjusted at roughley 20,000 miles I drove the heck out of the car down the long straight flats of 95 south averageing between 90-top speed of about 124 that was my only issue maybe the car was due for it I dunno I rareley read the manual.

From San Diego to Chicago. Only problem I had was over temping in the nevada desert. Had to drive with out a/c and windows down but other than that I was good. Mountains such do to lack of horsepower.

I think in the tc 65 mph = 3k rpm right?

In the manual tC, i think you're about 3k RPM @ 55-60...

Auto tC i'll be crusing 70 @ 3k rpm.

Well I have 18 inch wheels...I dont know if that would make a difference. But at 65 I am going 3k rpm.

So what rpms do you get @ 65?

in my xB, 75 mph @ 3300 RPM... South Chicago Suburbs to St. Paul - 675 miles each way. no problems.
