View Full Version : CF with colored clearcoat?

Have any of you gotten a carbon fiber part and had it cleared with a colored clear coat to shade it toward your paint scheme?

I went to Scion Pinups this past weekend and a guy had done it, but it kinda looked like he had done it himself and rather poorly I guess. I'm wondering if any of you have seen or done anything like that since it's harder to find colored carbon fiber parts.

A good body shop could do it. Tint the clear coat and spray it.

I've never seen it done in person, but I think that would look cool. Depending on the color, I would say go for it. Be one of the first! (if not the first)

that sounds like something i should do. i have a hood and hatch and the hood weave already turned gold after a year

old topic but i have my hood in the shop now. im getting it cleared with a blue pearl tint in it. i should have it back tomorrow i hope and ill post pics (the weave turned gold on me cuz i didnt have it cleared sooner). cf hatch to be done next.

proper way to do it would be with a candy, because candy's are dyes. There are many other ways to acheive this look, but because it being "tint" so to speak in direct sunlight/uv it will fade. But can look sick as hell.

well technically its not tinted... victor is mixing pearl in with the clear coat so it will give it a slight blue sheen.

yea.... pretty much... im just hoping its done today cuz i gotta drive to houston monday and i cant make it there with my oem hood zip tied down... when i got my cf hood last year the latch had to be adjusted and now my oem doesnt go but to half latch.

got my hood back a few mins ago. looks so much better in person in the sun but check it out. my next piece is my cf hatch.

ps dont buy VIS products. after 1 year my weave turned gold.
