This is how it's going to work. The Medford, Oregon chapter will be the starting point. I had the baton made for this event, to be passed on to the next chapter. We will include our chapter's roll call, and each following chapter will do the same. It is up to the chapter that has the baton to arrange the next meet with the next closest chapter. Hopefully we get to ALL the chapters.

This relay is an attempt to bring the chapters together & to break us out of our shells. I would ask that every chapter participate in this event as it will add to the history of Scikotics.

RULES:

1: Meet up with the neighboring chapter that has the
baton. Get as many people together as possible.

2: Take a picture of the exchange (THE ACTUAL HAND OFF) between
chapters. and other pictures as well of the whole meeting. :) Please make sure to get a good picture of "the Sign Dude" logo. they sponsored the baton for us.

3: POST THE PICTURE IN THIS THREAD:
http://scikotics.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1740893&posted=1#post1740893

4: POST what chapter HAS the baton. let's try not to lose it. :)
After your chapter hands off the baton post up and I will turn your chapter to RED, signifying that you have participated. This part is important so we all know who has had the baton and it doesn't backtrack to the same chapters.

5: Put your chapter's roll call in the baton before you hand it off to the
next chapter.

5a: Log the Geo tracking coin included in the baton on this site:
https://www.geocaching.com/Membership/register.aspx?type=basic

5b: Create a user ID for your chapter: USE YOUR CHAPTERS NAME AS THE ID. Use the
password: darkside .. Geo caching instructions are at the bottom of this post

6: IF there are more than 2 chapters at a event for hand off, then,
DO ONE CHAPTER AT A TIME. ( taking a picture between each hand off)

7: Be respectful and treat the baton like a new born... we don't want it
getting destroyed or lost.

8: Please DO NOT place a 'trinket' or 'memento' to that represents your chapter inside of the baton!

9: HAVE FUN!!!! :) and BE SAFE!!!

*SAFTEY NOTE*
DO NOT do hand offs between cars while driving down the road. this is not only very dangerous but illegal.

This thread is for communications between chapters for the relay. chapters can post up possible meet ups that other chapters might be able to make it to. It is up to every chapter to communicate with each other to arrange the meets.

Here is ALL the info that you will need to help track the coin on its journey across the Nation.
feel free to add a note from your experiences

this is the link for the geocaching coil that is in the baton for the relay.
go to this link:

http://www.geocaching.com (http://www.geocaching.com/)

Once logged in click on "trackable Items" on the left side of the screen

then: enter the tracking # HGQKBW in the box *it looks like the example below and it should be about MID page.*
Enter the Tracking Number of the Item:
The "Tracking Number" is the unique series of letters and numbers that appears on each item.

Then click "TRACK"

Off to the right you will see some links, click on "found it? log it!"

TYPE OF LOG: "GRAB IT": Use this option ONLY ONCE.
"WRITE NOTE" *it is important that you use this option if your chapter ALREADY has "grabbed" it*
DATE LOGGED: the date you enter the log
Travel Bug Tracking #: Enter the tracking # *the same one as before: HGQKBW

then type up your log entry and click *submit*
it's that simple..

I rearranged the order of Regions from west to east. please POST UP your chapter and I WILL EDIT this post and turn it to YELLOW! Also. Could someone from each REGION please get your regional or someone that knows your region to post up the missing chapters and rearrange the chapters from west to east, with the best "Flow". the current chapter will be in light blue.

AWESOME idea!!!! OMG! Doooo eeeeet!

Make sure it'll be big enough to hold everyone's roll call list. You could do something like geocaching too, put a little 'thing' in there, Ohio could put a buckeye in it, Cali could put a little sand, etc.

I like your idea, Kels. Back in May 2009, our sponsoring dealership did a geocaching event, and the local geocaching team made a coin signifying the event. It's a Scion coin, with a Crimson, Black or White tC on it, the event info, but has "Scikotics" on the left front bumper of the tC. I know that I have an extra one somewhere, so I might put that in there for Kern County, if every chapter promises to leave the coin in the baton after checking it out, so that the coin can make it all the way to Asylum....

This sounds like a hella good time and idea.
BUt my 2 cents (could be wrong good at that) but we have so many slackers and lazy ass's that you will machine a nice baton mybe stencil'd, maybe machined, then some drunk is going to use it as a straw then crack it, then someone will use it as a pipe, and a beer bong, and by the time asylum comes around you will have a wooden twig because that is what the last chapter was passed.

This is a joke and i have had no sleep.

Great idea count JAcksonville, FL in.

Even though there is no chapter representation in the far northern counties of California, I would definately be interested in the baton pass. The Wine Country Chapter could take the pass from Medford, and deliver it down to the other NorCal chapters, and who in turn could pass it on down to the SoCal chapters, who, I know would continue the Relay!

We could meet in Redding or somewhere in the vicinity. Please keep me/us posted on the details..This sounds awesome.

^ YEAH BUDDY!!
OCT 24th.. the first hand off.. We just need someone from a CALI chapter to comit to meeting us in Redding, CA. :) Mike (Scifion) will be in Willows, CA. that is another 75 miles south.. not sure if we can get the crew to go that far. :( our origional plan was just a day trip to Redding. that's the nearest In and Out burger... :p the Relay is a recent and WELCOME addition to the drive. :)

If it gets to Cleveland, I'm not sure who will be bringing it up or over since we're so far from other Chapters lol. So like wise, I'm not sure how easy it would be to pass once we had it . . . :(

But this surely does sound fun, it's a great idea!<3

SOME F.Y.I.'s..

FIRST: I cannot take full credit for this relay. The original Idea came form DertySciko (http://www.scikotics.com/forums/member.php?u=7637) (Candice) in the Western Region's MFIC meeting last weekend. I just took it to the next level. SO A BIG  round  of  applause  for HER!!! there are also some others that have helped get this going. morticianaxe (http://www.scikotics.com/forums/member.php?u=3179) (Dan) for helping me work the details out before posting this thread, IspyAxB (http://www.scikotics.com/forums/member.php?u=7337) (leslie) who will Hopefully be in Redding for the first hand off... I know I have forgotten a few people, and I don't mean to. it's 2am here, and I'm a little tired. :p please remind me who you are and I will get your name up here.. :)

NEXT: Asylum is ONLY 8 months away. that means this thing has to move somewhat quickly. ORGANIZATION will be the key to getting EVERY CHAPTER involved before June. I know the winters in some parts o fthe country can get really bad, and if it is to dangerous to drive to the next chapter..... DON'T. we don't need OR want anyone getting hurt because of this.

LAST: I am no good with computer stuff, can someone work up a map of the country with the locations of all the chapters? and post it or a link to it? that would be a HUGE HELP!!! :)

Okay, I found the Scion/Scikotics geocaching coin. I know that Kelsi mentioned putting a little bit of each part of the country in the baton, and yes, this coin is from the Kern County Cachers. But I'm contributing this count because it represents Scikotics. I am registering the coin, so that everyone can track it as long as it is left inside the baton at all times, everyone can track the baton too along the relay. I think that it would be cool for everyone to see where it goes along the way until it reaches Asylum next year. If it's planned well enough, maybe it can make it's way to Sanitarium as well??? Once I finalize getting it fully registered, I will provide the website, username and password to each MFIC and all Admins. It will be the duty of the chapter MFIC's to keep each chapter in the loop of the baton's location....

Andy and/or Carl, since you are the initial starting point in Medford, I will need to send this coin to either one of you. Please PM the appropriate contact information. Thanks everyone!

the Western Region had a MFIC meeting this past Sunday, and someone suggested that we should do a NATIONAL club relay. Well, that got the ball rolling and this is what we came up with.
OK, so this is how it's going to work. The Medford, Oregon chapter will be the starting point. I am making a hallow baton for this event, to be passed on to the next chapter. We will include our chapter's roll call, and each following chapter will do the same. Medford is making a road trip down to Redding, CA on OCT 24th. that is where we hope to meet up with a NOR CAL chapter (OR TWO).

The baton will travel down through California, then east to the next state then back north to the northern most chapter then east again then back down south.... so on ad so forth. Hopefully we get to ALL the chapters. The Baton will make its way to the East coast where the last chapter that has it right before Asylum will bring it to Asylum with them. If that chapter cannot make it to Asylum please mail it to someone who will be going. when it reaches Asylum 2010 the remaining chapters that did not get a chance to put their roll calls in can do so there. and at the end of Asylum 2010 there will be a special presentation of the baton.

RULES:

1: Meet up with the neighboring chapter that has the
baton. Get as many people together as possible.

2: Take a picture of the exchange (THE ACTUAL HAND OFF) between
chapters. and other pictures as well of the whole meeting. :)

3: POST THE PICTURE IN THIS THREAD!!!

4: POST what chapter HAS the baton. let's try not to lose it. :)

5: Put your chapter's roll call in the baton before you hand it off to the
next chapter.

6: IF there are more than 2 chapters at a event for hand off, then,
DO ONE CHAPTER AT A TIME. ( taking a picture between each hand off)

7: Be respectful and treat the baton like a new born... we don't want it
getting destroyed or lost.

8: HAVE FUN!!!! :) and BE SAFE!!!

This relay is an attempt to bring the chapters together... to break us out of our shells. I would ask that every chapter participate in this event as it will add to the history of Scikotics.

I will be making the baton this week on my days off and will post up a picture of it when I get it made.. :)

Let's use this thread for communications between chapters for the relay. chapters can post up possible meet ups that other chapters might be able to make it to.

 Lets show the world just how GREAT of a club we are!!!

I think that Brant's sig line fits in quite nice in this thread:
Until people start thinking about "US" as a club and family, as opposed to "ME" and my chapter" and what "I'm going to do"
and "What" the ramifications of "self" can cause or bring to all of "US"
Once that is realized by the self centered individual, only then, WILL SCIKOTICS reach the "Next Level"

Where the bbq chicken and ribs !!! LolZ !! hehe... make these bbq chicken and ribs for me !!

Cleveland is the only active chapter here in Ohio at the moment. I can drive to Philly . . . I didn't realize they had a chapter there. It's not "that" far from me. It's actually a 6hr and some odd minute drive for me. But maybe we could meet up half way or something?

Florida is gonna be fun !

Depending on the Chapters that get involved :

Start:
Pensacola
N Fl Panhandle
Gainesville
*possible Kissimmee or Orlando
Tampa
Ft. Meyers
Miami
Ft. Lauderdale
W Palm Beach
Then a long meet in the middle drive:
Jensen Beach
Space Coast
*Orlando &/or Kissimmee (Should meet off I-4 & I-95)
Jax

Then Jax can Deliver to Valdosta to carry it on for GA !

The only snag is Orlando & Kissimmee, they can either meet together as one. OR One can meet Gainesville & transfer to Tampa and the other Meet Space Coast to Deliver to Jax.

I think I got it all though

You can def Count Jax in !

I don;'t know any other state but my own so it will be up to everyone to work it out. thanks for the suggestions everyone. keep em coming..

I have some info on the Baton for everyone.. with Jason's help (kiSS) we should have Killer Glass on board in making the baton for us. here is the PM I got from Tim from KG.

Hello,
Yes lets get something going

hard to get my PMs here at times direct is best

What size tube we looking for?
Where in cally you going?

I edited it a bit though. sensitive info and all. :p

ANYWAYS. we have a few days to get some ideas in.. the baton will be approx 16" long and 1 1/2" - 2" round. I suggested that SCIKOTICS be etched down the side. and have Killer Glass's logo on it as well..

any suggestions?

I told Tim that the deadline is October 22nd. 23rd at the VERY latest. I sent him an email and a pm but I still haven't heard how the progress is going.. :-? Well. I really hate to have to post this but.....
I just got word that Killer Glass is extremely busy getting ready for SEMA and will more than likely not get the baton done in time to start this on our trip on the 24th. So, I went down to a local Vinyl shop, and they are working on something for us tomorrow. I am a bit disappointed that we won't be using a KG product, but I understand why. I should have the baton maybe tomorrow night or early next week and will post pictures as soon as I get it.

Andy, I'm sending out the Scikotics geocaching coin your way. I'm sending it out tomorrow, via USPS priority mail. Please PM me when you receive it.

Ok, gang. The Scikotics geocaching coin will be in the baton from start to finish. I have registered the coin on www.geocaching.com (http://www.geocaching.com), so that everyone can track it's local along the relay. This coin was specially made for a geocaching event our local dealership sponsored for a chapter meet/Scion event. I thought it would be cool for just about every Scikotic to see, plus we all get to track where the baton is. Once you get on the website, the login is "scikotics_relay" and password is "darkside". Once you've logged in, you are brought to the geocaching home page. On the left side is a list or menu. Click on "trackable items". You will be brought to another screen, where "Geocoins", "Travel Bugs" and "Promotions" can be tracked. (If when you log in you may be automatically brought to this page because someone didn't log off on the home page). Scroll down this page, and where it says "Enter the Tracking Number of the Item", enter "HGQKBW". You should be brought to another page with the geocoins information, and last known location by GPS.

If anyone has questions, PM me.... Have fun tracking the Scikotics Relay Baton!!!

You might add that they donated the vinyl wraping and sticker. They are the shop we use in Medford for our stickers.

Hey this works. Sign Dude has been good to us the past few years. I had another vinyl company for a while but he was an ass and screwed us over on a banner, so then I went to sign dude and the mgr there has worked with me on anything I wanted. Always willing to help out. He wrapped the tube and put our logo on it for free. Sign Dude came through for us in a pinch so this will get the job done and looks pretty good IMO. Everyone just needs to remember it's a cardboard shipping tube so we need to be careful with it. This is going to be fun and we as a club will have to work together to make this happen. I know we can do it!!!!!!!

We kick this off in 7 days. the first hand off is in Redding, CA. We added a few Scion stickers to the baton, and have one on it's way in the mail. I will get some pics up soon. I need a new battery for my camera. If anyone has a Scion Sticker that they want on this SEND IT TO ME.. PM ME for the ADDY. you have just enough time to get it here. I would need it no later than FRIDAY, so Make sure that it is here by then. Now, this baton was DONATED. and the company put it's logo on it. the logo NEEDS to be in the pictures.. I will be updating them as the baton makes it's way across the country. Also, IF you feel the need to add stickers to the baton, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE........ DO NOT COVER stickers that are already on it. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ILLEGAL OR PROFANE on it. no pot leaves, bongs, someone flipping the bird.. ect.. We need to keep this NICE!!! it will be shown on the news (hopefully) and have pictures all over the place, and with any luck, GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS.

thank you.

Got ya down DJ.. NOW. it WILL be up to the other chapters to decide the when and where of the meets.. BUT.. THIS HAS TO BE DONE BY JUNE 2010. for ASYLUM... so it has to move pretty quickly. lets try to get ALL the chapters in. this will be a good way for everyone to get out of their "shells" and hook up with the other chapters. Do some planning make this run smoothly as possible..

AS soon as a HAND OFF takes place please update this thread as to WHO has it, and Update the list by turning YOUR chapter RED, So EVERYONE knows that you HAVE done your part and PASSED the BATON.

Thank you.

Wow, this is going to get interesting! LOL

Northern Region... The Regional is THansenite, Tony.. you might want to reach out to him to coordinate movements, he is around, but may or may not trip over this request.

It's a big jump from Colorado in the west to IA, MO or MN. South Dakota has no chapters, nor Nebraska. If you are wanting to go from the west, to the north, to the north east then down the east coast and back across the south to end in Tulsa, it can be done, but we would have to coordinate and hand off between the west and the north as it would be a bit of a trip for both areas.

North Region:

Alaska - Is Dead, have not posted for months...

Illinois - Chicago and Champaign (Both have current activity)

Indiana - Fort Wayne, Indy and South Bend ( All with current activity)

Iowa - Cedar Rapids and Des Moines (Both Healthy and Active)

Kentucky - Lexington and Cumberland (Cumberland is alive, but very low in activity, Lexington is active)

Michigan - (Currently trying to organize a chapter, but if they can work out a person or two to do this it would be cool)

Missouri - Kansas City and St. Louis (Both with current activity)

Ohio - Cleveland (Currently Active)

Minnesota - Minneapolis and Brainerd (Currently Active)

For Minnesota, I see no reason we would need to do 2 trips, we could easily do something in lets say Davenport or Moline area and have MN, IA meet with IL and do a big swap out and mini regional meet all at once. If folks are up for that. I would guess we would have CO hand to KC maybe? Then DM could meet with KC and St. Louis, MN could pop down and meet with DM and CR and then set up a hand off to Chicago and Champaign and they could get a hand off set up with Michigan and Cleveland and Cleveland could pass it off to the North East.

If we have Members at Large in the states where there are gaps, maybe we could get them to take parts of the relay up as well!

Shortstaxx
10-20-2009, 06:47 PM
I def. think coming north to south would be good for the coast...If you hit Queen Anne's Revenge,NC to Broughton, then to Fayetville, you could hit Myrtle Beach to Charleston to Columbia to Greenville and then hit Atlanta from there...then Atlanta can go to VAldosta and Valdosta can hit Florida...I think that would flow really well...then have florida go down and come back up to the panhandle and hit alabama or miss or somethin there...

Mad_Sciontist
10-20-2009, 06:58 PM
I think if it gets to an area where there is an extreme distance to the next chapter it could be mailed to that chapter and then continue from there. What do you all think?

XD2O
10-20-2009, 07:14 PM
If we had to, but it would be awesome if it could make it all the way around hand to hand... using members at large might help, depending on where the gaps are at... plus it sure couldn't hurt in expanding Scikotics into areas we have yet to hit!

XD2O
10-20-2009, 07:15 PM
Heck, if nothing else, maybe I would be able to pick it up from someone out west on one of my work trips...

Is that the order or are we still attempting to figure that out?

well, all I did was copy and paste the chapters. they are in NO specific order. What every chapter needs to do is figure out who the next closest chapter is and get in touch with them to work out a meet. Also keep in mind the direction that this is going. we need to keep it so that there isn't any backtracking (or as little as possible). I think the best way to do this is from west to east, and zig-zag north to south (or south to north)

The Idea of this relay is to get chapters out and about and to bring us closer together as a whole. break out of your LOCAL forums and start talking this up. start making plans NOW as to who and where you will be meeting. you can also post up here where the next meet will take place so EVERYONE will know..

After our trip to Cali this Saturday I will start a thread for the Pictures. I encourage everyone to bring cameras to the meets and take a bunch of pics.

Ok so I am at work and decided to see if this would help yea its kinda crappy looking. The pink arrows are the chapters that have agreed to participate. All the other chapters are just written on the map with no arrow. I think it should go down through Cali, to AZ, to TX, along the South, then East Coast and then Northern Region and it could it end up back in OK for Asylum-just a suggestion. Maybe we could get the rest of the chapters on board

Well from AZ to TX there is a big gap. So if we could get El Paso, San Antonio, Houston it would lessen the commute. Also some other chapter in FL could join in as well then in could go down one side and up the other coast of FL and work its way up east coast.

Have fun tracking the Scikotics Relay Baton!!!

just wanted to put this in as many places on this thread as possible.. I got the coin about 4-5 days ago. I forgot to log it in.. :(

When your chapter gets the baton and the coin PLEASE go home and log it in ASAP..

Couple of suggestions

1st. Update OP of all who has checked in and what chapter

2nd. What is the route this is looking to go to make it easy, maybe type it like so

A. (start) L.A. to montery (end and chapter start and end with pass off)

B. (start) Montery to san fransisco (end and repeat info above

C. Etc etc etc.

3rd. What are the timeframes. (obviously only an estimate, because of weather, people available, etc.). This way, people can coordinate schedules, and maybe group drives to the chapters. I know here in chitown, between everyone busy and whatnot, we have not had alot of time to get together. So I'm not looking through 11+ pages, so I'll say at least me here in chitown area will take it and pass off to Wisconsin or head towards Indy, Michigan, or even central il where we have a new chapter now.

But I do have to emphasize on my 1st post who all has checked in. It would make it much easier.

mike. thanks for the suggestions. I updated the first post. the changes are in YELLOW.
As for the "ROUTE"? that is up to every chapter to decide the best way. the LIST is in a fairly good order, but can be adjusted as we go.The WHOLE idea of this relay is to get chapters out of their areas and meeting other neighboring chapters, to bring us together.

The time frame we are looking at is having ALL chapters participate BY Asylum June 2010.

I post up the chapter list once if not more on every page. every time a chapter says that they are in, but with your suggestion I have added the chapter list to the OP. I will just edit it there. thanks. I think you are right in that will make it easier for everyone to view.

EVERYONE: PLEASE CHECK THE OP FOR UPDATES. ALSO PLEASE CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR CHAPTER IS YELLOW, I think I got everyone so far. ALSO, if you know anyone in a chapter that is NOT yellow, please contact them and inform them of the relay.

Well I should think that Phoenix could get it to SLC and they could get it to Boise. I just figured and I know that it is pretty quick but with SLC having a show maybe the Boise Peeps and Mile High could be there to do a double hand off. Then the closest chapters to me would be Amarillo. Then I figure it can make the rounds in TX then head north through Tulsa and KC to the north followed by Des Moins maybe. :dontknow: guess it is up to Phoenix as to if they want to give it to SLC or TX maybe it ends in Boise after going through TX, FL then north and back down through the mid west.

rushbuster70
10-26-2009, 10:13 AM
I probably would like to go with TX and give it to El Paso. Its 430 Miles away.SLC is around 660 Miles away...

As far as meeting in the middle we would be looking at around 5-6 hours round trip with El Paso and like 9-10 hours with SLC.

There is going to be no perfect way to do this but it all depends on what we are looking at for time.I'll post it up in our chapter and see what we want to do...

it will take a while before it hits TX. it would be great if your chapter could get at least 1 or 2 people to participate. I hope that you guys can. :) keep checking this thread for updates as to where the baton is..

I'm pretty sure our chapter will have more than 1 person traveling. It'll be a pain in the ass for them, considering we're in the middle of no where. At LEAST a 6 hour drive to San Antonio. Our guys will be prepared to do that trip though, I'm sure of it.

Capital has the baton right now. I am due to receive it sometime this week...

It then goes from WC to Solano, then to CoCo, then to CV then to Fresno.

It was decided at the Redding meet that the baton spend 'some time' at the receiving chapter before it gets handed off to the next chapter, so it might be a few weeks before it makes its way down south...

i think it should be with the chapter just long enough for the chapter members to see it, to have a group photo with it, etc.

Ahhh, my humble abode for the longest a few years back. I might go down there sometime before the end of the week and meet up with ya'll. Considering my own hometown of Jax is doing other stuff.

Also, effective immediately: The ONLY things to go inside the baton are to be a small sheet of paper with your chapter's roll call on it and the geo-caching coin.

Please DO NOT place a 'trinket' or 'memento' to that represents your chapter inside of the baton! - While this sounded like a great idea at first, the reality is that to have seventy-odd chapters doing this would be impossible to fit it all inside of the baton, and all the weight might actually break the baton or the other items in it...
