ok so i got some new tail light in and i was switching them over this evening. i get done with the left side and i go turn on the car to make sure everything's working good... i get in the car right turn single left turn single brake then when i go to put it in reverse i cannot get it to go into reverse. i have an auto so i punch the button on the side of the shifter and nothing its stuck in park!!! im panicking for a sec then i look up at the cluster the vsc the abs and the traction control lights are all on and i cant toggle the traction control button. i had a moment of sanity and i remembered the little white button underneath the cap to manually override the shifter so i got it in reverse. but whats going on what happened it still wont come out of park unless i push that button...
help plzzzzz

Did you start the car before you tried to put it in reverse ? I cant think of anything in the tail lights that would cause a mechanical problem like that.

what i was saying was did you actually start the car all the way or just turn it till all the lights came on? I am trying to think of what it would be. mine is a standard so i cant go out and play with it to see what happenes. The only similar thing I have come across was a mustand that did that but it was b/c the cable broke that goes from the shifter to the trasnmition

check the brake lock that allows you to bring it out of park into reverse. I had an issue with an auto kia sephia where the brake lock in the shifter wasn't functioning...so when you press the brake, a little actuator type thing moves and allows the shifter to be taken out of park.
i'd also just double check all the fuses and whatnot as well.
