Tony & I tried this & it worked... Not saying it will work for all or every time but what do you have to lose....

Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone:
If you lock your keys In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no
object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you
can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!'

sry that only works if ur keyless entry is on a radio frequency...so on most cars it will work, but not on all of them. if u dont know wat urs is, the easiest way to find out is to press unlock when ur key is in ur pocket lol.

I hate to burst your bubble but it probably wont work with any car. True that most of them run off of radio frequency but even if your cell phone mic could pick it up, the receiving cell phone speaker can't transmit the radio frequency. I am a locksmith and have been doing this for about 10 years now. Heard all kinds of stories. The tennis ball thing doesnt work either, not even on the BMW with vacuum lines. They are all sealed and electronicly connected to the locks.

On a positive note: I might write up a "how to" on opening your car. it shouldnt be too hard to make the tools.

How far away from your car were you when you tried it?

I was a ways away from my car. I was up in my apartment which is out of reach and Hunter was by my car. It unlocked. However, when we tried it with Kelsi's xD, Hunter took the keys and drove off and she stayed by her car. It didn't work that time. I think it is a hit and miss deal. Not sure what to think about it.

I Think I no y it fail with kelsi xD I called her Plus the phone by the car should be a foot from the door panel, Not the glass....Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end.

Make sure the person by the car called the person with the key.....

Don't know about the cell phone trick but I know your head will amplify the signal from your key fob. Mythbusters tried on an episode and I have seen people try it themselves, after watching the Mythbusters episode of course. I can't help think that it might not be so good for your health to hold a key fob to your head just to get some extra range.

Funny - I remember back in 1995 I was talking to my (now ex) wife on the phone - I was at work - she was at home. For some reason I was pressing my car alarm 'arm/dis-arm button' while talking with her. My car was at home - I heard the 'arm/dis-arm beeps' through the phone - no lie. The alarm was an alpine (gray key-chain thing with one small black button and one oval light blue botton). Other 'tests' after that always worked :)

Good idea - we'll do 2 tests. One test through cell phones, then another through Land-line phones. We'll do a 1st GEN and a 2nd GEN test ;) LOL - this will be good....

just make sure the person with the remote is at least a mile away. you need alot more distance then across the parking lot or from an upstairs apt.

The_Butcher
10-24-2010, 05:04 AM
yeah.. I think we will try this from across town AND a parking lot...
