I am curious if anyone has any suggestions on what to use to clean the headliner.

Purple Power, diluted 15:1. Try it under the visor first to be sure, but that should work.

If not, a detail shop may be able to get it out. They have some pretty potent stuff.

Eventually I will be replacing it with Catskin leather.

I'm pretty sure any fabric cleaner can get out the usual dirt in a headliner. Whatever you use, don't get your head liner soaked, just blot the area to be cleaned and you'll be ok. Soak the headliner and it'll probably give way and start to sag. Good luck with it and let me know what you use because I need to do the same thing!!!
Oh, are you a smoker? Is that the kind of dirt you're talking about?

I have used Blue Coral Upholstery cleaner and it works great. It is a foam so u can spray it on lightly then use a fairly damp rag to go over the headliner and then use a dry rag to go over it again and it will bring out the nastiest stuff even the smoke stains if u are a smoker. Very easy to use too. I used it to clean Bubba's really nasty headliner (before he decided to redo it that is) and it made it look like new. Just took a little elbow grease but not bad at all. Took me maybe 30 minutes tops. Leaves a nice clean smell too after u are done. It's the brand in a blue can with a brushy looking plastic piece on the top for scrubbing. Never used that part but it also does a nice job on upholstery too. Have used it inside my XB also. Very satisfied with the results.

I don't smoke in my car..it is like whee the kids have touched around the handles and a drink that splattered in small places. Once I get it clean though, I will post up and let you know how it goes. I tried laundry stain remover and that didn't work.

Should be able to find Blue Coral about anywhere. Got mine at Advance auto but I think they also have it at Wally mart. Pretty easy to find about anywhere.
