So i own a 2008 xb and i have a very nice long crack starting from the bottom of the windsghield and goes up.... i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, cause it really doesn't seem like any kind of rock hit it or anything....
And the reason i say again, is because my 2005 xb also hasd this same problem, is it just me or the car??

I know the 1st gen XB's had a problem with the body flexing, that was one of the reasons why the windshields would crack, also they don't seem to like rocks too well also.

I'm on my second windshield on my 1gen. I did have a few rock chips, no cracks, but then I was sitting at a stop light and one started forming from under the rubber edge on the driver's side. In a few minutes it grew to half of the windshield length.
It's a stress crack, and should be covered by the dealer. If there's no noticeable chip or anything in the path of the crack, they should replace it under warranty, at least for the '08. The '05 only has a 36k, 3 year basic warranty so it's probably out of coverage.
The dealer may do a "pen test" where they run a ball point on the crack to check for bumps. This test is not real accurate and they may say there is a chip where none exists. My dealer claimed there was one on my crack, under the rubber no less, but I got them to cover it anyway. if you have problems, I have the claim for a class action case in California on this. if you have to, mention it to them and they may decide to cover it.

Well I dropped by the dealer today and they said it wasn't under warranty because there is one very tiny crack that looks like a pebble could have hit it, it's actually just from me running my fingernail along the crack and I managed to get some glass pieces to come out :( kinda pissed me off but it's such a hassle to deal with dealership. It would almost be easier just to replace it and not have to deal with the dealership.

I had a few rock chips in my 05 xB. The first one happend when i had less than 400 miles new, and another about 3 years later....I finally had the ins. cover the epoxy injection fix and the guy that came out to do it said that when you break the factory seal on a windshield it will never be the same, b/c the factory seal is applied in perfect conditions with robotic precision that is hard to duplicate those conditions and accuracy by hand, and can lead to it leaking down the road. I can get mine replaced for a $100 deductable, but i have a tint strip at the top and a DOD sticker that would need replacing, and i am not sure if i want to go through the hassle unless it gets another chip or something.

I have found when you deal with the dealer they will do any thing to get it off of them . Remember the squeeky wheel gets the oil. The louder you get the better your chances. Be persictant.
good luck mark
