These are facts from what I just saw of the xD.

From scion life.
I just returned from the big deal down here in Miami.

No cameras were allowed. They were serious with the searches.

The xD is a 4 door.
The xD is not an Auris copy, at least not sheetmetal-wise.
The xD has a 2.4L engine, although it was tried to keep hidden, but the model opened the hood then a corporate guy ran in and closed it real quick.
The xD has rear door speakers and cupholders.
It looks like a Matrix, but smaller, and with with the C and D pillars welded together.
The gauges are in front of the driver.
The gauges are backlit WHITE.

Ludacris performed at the release party.

It has a 1.8 but it does look very much like a Matrix.

hasnt the xA always sort of looked like a matrix too the untrained eye? With my ist sport grille that is opened up makes it look even more like a mini matrix

If any pics are posted on our site from the show they will be deleted. Scion trusted us with the unveiling and we will not violate that trust.

I like it and the interior space is supposed to be the equivalant of the current xB. I was standing next to Mark Templin (VP of Scion) when they unveiled it and asking him to confirm that the new motor would be the 1.8 out of the Matrix xr and he said he would never tell. What was funny was as he was saying that the model was opening the hood. I told him that and he was like "WHAT?!?". It was kinda funny.

Had a blast also in MIAMI. But oh wells, what happened in miami stayed in miami.

Yes, that's right....it's the 1.8L engine that will be powering the '08 xB and '08 xD. It features advanced mechanisms such as Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent), provides torque-strong output, reduces CO2 emissions through high fuel efficiency, achieves cleaner exhaust emissions and is light and compact.

Engine: 2ZR-FE
CC: 1797
Peak HPower: 134@6000rpm
Torque: 129lb ft. @4000rpm
MPG: 40.5

So far I like the numbers.

I was told the motor in the new xB looked like the 2.4 out of the tC. That is what everyone has been saying it will be. Did you hear different?

Both cars are based on the corolla platform per a reliable source. I didn't try look inside the engine bay when the models opened the hoods, instead I looked for the sticker attached on the hood cover and both stickers read "2ZR-FE.

Ah, good observsation!

I think keeping the motors the same for both cars is a good idea.

i even tagged both the xB's and xD's door handles by licking them. it will not make any sense for scion to put different motors in each vehicle. keeping the 2ZR-FE will be best idea.

Full Story here (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/17/spy-report-inside-scions-big-miami-beach-product-reveal/)

Scion xD

The Scion xA is no more. Templin's first reveal was its replacement, dubbed xD. Like it's predecessor, it is a four-door with a vertically opening rear hatch. The C-pillar on the car shown was said to be around a foot-and-a-half wide, with no windows on the sides of the cargo area. Our spy says that the xD is definitely larger than the xA, and has a profile reminiscent of Toyota's Matrix, and that the rear end was evocative of the Mazda3.

The xD's hood stretched down over the vehicle's front end a bit, and sported conventional headlights. The car's fog lights, were deceiving, however. At first glance, they simply look like plain covers where the fogs would normally reside, but a closer look revealed a cluster of around fifteen 5mm LEDs. The fogs were never illuminated during the reveal.

Inside, drivers get a floor-mounted shifter, and cup holders are built into all four doors. The show car was lowered and wore a body kit designed by Five Axis (creators of the 2005 xA Speedster concept). The lowering springs and body kit will be available through Scion. The car was painted bright red, and some interior panels were color-matched, but it's unknown whether or not that's standard. Templin made no announcements regarding a release date or pricing, and our spy believed that the xD may still need a little work, as an uneven hood gap was spotted on the car shown.

Our spy also specifically noted that the xD is not a copy of the Auris, which some people had apparently expected.
