I need to vent. So here goes. I went out to get something to eat earlier. So, I go fill up with gas, got my food and started heading back home. There's a long stretch of road on the way home and I was following 3 cars with 2 cars in the right lane. Next thing I know BAM! I saw something heading for the car but by the time I saw it, I had no time to react. SO, I pull over into a church paking lot not far from there to inspect the damage. Come to find out, I have a big ass chunk taken out of my front bumper and the plastic fenderwell is missing. I head down the other side of the road and make a U-turn to see what in the hell it was to hit. I pull over and start searching the road. I find my fenderwell sitting all by it's lonesome on the shoulder. Once I did some more walking around, I found the culprit. Now I hate electricians. I see an electrician's snake laying on the other side of the road. It must have rolled out of somebody's truck. So now, I need a new bumper. I'm not going to go through insurance. I don't want my rates going up. Any suggestions?
Find a good body shop... Tell them what happened and that you are footing the bill yourself. They will usually give you a pretty decent discount on work. If you want to do it yourself, start hunting on line for the parts. Oh, and body shops will sell you the parts as well. Good Luck on this!

Will your rates really go up that much?
Well, I was going to say if it was from a powerline or something like that, you could contact the city and they are required to pay for it.
Hmmm... No idea what electric company it was? Go the same direction and see if you see anything. I'd search till I found the Godforsaken truck!

I'm pretty sure my rates will go up. I think I can get it fixed for less than the deductable though. It was not from a powerline or anything. I think it was just laying in the bed of some guy's truck and it somehow came out. I don't know what company it was, it was dark and he was a few car-lengths ahead of me. If I had known of the damage, I would have chased his ass down. However, I stopped to see if anything was broken and my jaw dropped. So, I'm on the market for a new front bumper cover. Anybody know a good place?

some insurance companies wont raise your rates if its your first accident with them.
a junk yard is a good place to start, try to match the same color though, painting is expensive.
this may be a good time to get a body kit if you were ever thinking about it

sorry to hear about your incident. whatever u do, just be more careful driving especially @ nite. as for insurance rates rising, i think it depends on the insurance u have. it'll go up but not much if it's a good company.

Well if it would be cheaper than your deductible then you'd have to pay it any way regardless right? No point in bothering the insurance company then. I really hope everything works out, keep us updated!

just so you know the thing was in motion when you hit it therefore its a not at fault collision therefore rates will not go up... :-)..
i love my wife being an insurance adjuster... i know all the loopholes... just make sure you tell them it was kicked up by the car in front of you and you couldn't avoid it...

Ok. I got a quote on a new bumper. $150 primed. I might go pick it up today. Still looking for paint though. I got a quote from MAACO for about $150, but I haven't heard any reviews on them so I don't know how good the quality is. I have a few people checking around for me, so I guess we'll see.

Before you go buy a stock bumper for $150, check the forums and see if anyone is selling a front aftermarket bumper you like.. If it was on me, I wouldnt buy stock replacements...

here's a tip:
call you insurance and ask to change your policy so that your comprehensive deductible is $0. that will only cost you in the ballpark of $30-$50 increase in premium. then wait a week or so and then file a comprehensive claim.
comprehensive claims dont raise rates, its comparable to getting your car hit with hail, or keyed, or falling branch, or in your case flying snakes.
just my .02 cents.

Ok. Update. I needed to get this done ASAP. There is alot of salt on the roads and I don't want to leave my inner-fender exposed to the elements and risk corrosion. Therefore, I have chosen MAACO. I paid for the parts tonight. $400 for parts. With the labor (if I have them install it) the total will be $649. I think I will go that route. I ordered a new bumper, new engine splash guard, new inner fenderwell, and new splash guard to attach to the fenderwell. Hopefully, they will get the parts quickly and I can get the car finished either Friday or Monday. Thanks for the input. I needed some support lol. I'll take some pics tomorrow of the damage and will post pics of the new bumper once it is installed.

Ouch! poor tC!! is that roadrash or just cold and salt??
Redneck4csa

Very cold and LOTS of salt. Which is why I want to get it fixed ASAP. I don't like the fact that there's no fenderwell and I don't want the salt to start corroding the metal. Hopefully, the car will be repaired on Monday and I can once again be proud to drive my tC.

Got her back from MAACO. Here are the pics. I'm not really happy about it though. It doesn't match perfect. They tell me it is because I was comparing the paint on the metal to the paint on the plastic. They say they can't match it perfectly. Plus, they also think it might be mental for me. I notice it more because I know it's a new bumper and the paint is different. I wish I could take better quality pics for you guys.

cant tell from the pics, but ive never been a fan of maaco, have had many friends that were not pleased with their work. but it may vary from one shop to another, but it also may be you get what you pay for.

they are right in a sense that with a pearlecent paint like that it will never match perfectly, but as josh said you get what you pay for, i just had my car fixed from a collsion on my front bumper and all they did was paint a portion of it and it matches damn near perfectly

On Macco's comercial they clearly state that they can perfectly match any factory car color.. Now i think that is BS but they should be able to produce what they claim.. Also, I know for sure that no matter what is painted (plastic or metal) its only the paint you should see, that is what primer is for..
Sorry buddy, I think you got a little ripped..

Probably. I thought of something before I left though. Since I don't think that the paint matches quite the way I want, I was thinking of having them paint the rocker panels and the rear bumper the same color as the front bumper, since all of those items are plastic. That way I have kind of a two-tone thing going on. They quoted me at about $425. It's just a thought.

You could have spent $825 at a decent paint place and got the whole car in a custom color?!?!?!
