Some of our guys in the NOLA chapter was talking to a guy that runs autocross events today. And we found out that the guy will put on an all Scion event for us. So im just wondering what everyone else thinks.:thanks:

The event would be In nola at zepher field. It is like an all day event. It will cost $35. Some of the restriction are no nitros, no sub boxes that slide around and everyone must wear approved helmets, and they will have helmets we can use. I'm not sure on the date yet. I wanted to see what all the chapters think bout this. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me.

I'm not interested. I used to race my 1st gen, but not doing this one. Tires cost to much, lol! Plus my 1st gen was better at handling corners, and I have to much in the trunk to be taking out now days.

Sounds like fun but the price is a little steep. That's what they charge for SCCA sanctioned events with trophies and awards. What are the helmet requirements? I have one thats snell and dot approved.

i highly doubt southern tc's would even show up...its 35 bucks but its for as many runs as want to do. its an all day event and they have some pretty nice cars out there. i went on a ride along with the guy who runs it and was crazy fun! something ive never done before. we need to know how many people would particapate in this event so i can tell the guy soon. he said they are have two meets in feb so we were going to try and set it up with him on one of those dates.

Southern Tcs hahaha yea right. I have been talkin to jorge about getting southern and nola scikos together. And he says he wants to do it but he says he needs two weeks to get things set up with southern but he never gets intouch with us. He is mostly talk as alot of us know. And as far as the price goes maybe if we get large enough group together maybe we can get him to lower the price a lil bit.

I just wanted to add my .03 to this thread since I love getting new people into autocrossing up here.

All of these are assuming this is an official sanctioned SCCA event (which it sounds like it is)

-90% of insurance companies still cover you while autocrossing. AutoX is considered a driving school and not racing. This was worked out between SCCA and the insurance companies to get more people into racing and rules were set in place to make it safer to put insurance companies’ minds at ease. All in all, it is very safe and your car is covered if anything happens.

-Autocrossing puts only slightly more wear on your car than day to day driving. Courses are typically set up so that most cars don’t exceed 60mph. If you have a manual, you typically get your car into second gear, then leave it for the rest of the run. Your brakes work a little harder because you are applying them fairly hard going into tight corners, but not too bad. This should have almost no additional wear on your tires because if your tires are sliding and squealing, you are loosing time.

-You learn A LOT about your car. There is one instance that sticks out in my mind from early this fall that I feel I would have gotten into a minor accident (not with another car, one of those big traffic pylons) if I didn’t have autocross experience. Instincts from driving AutoX took over and I didn’t realize how close I had come to hitting the pylon until I was past it. I thank autocrossing for that. It also helps with driving in slick conditions because you learn a lot about vehicle dynamics.

-Its fun as hell! You get to compare your time with your friends’ times and chat about “driving strategy” around the course. You get to see how good of a driver you are (drag racing shows how fast of a car you have, autocrossing shows how fast of a driver you are). It is a blast spending a day pushing your car and yourself on a safe and legal track without having to worry about cops or other drivers on the roadway.

I always try to get new people to try it out. The only bad thing is that after you do it once, you get hooked. If you are thinking about trying it, do it…you won’t be sorry. The organizers are typically enthusiasts as well and love seeing new people get into the sport. Hopefully, some of you guys take advantage of this opportunity and have the event. I wish I lived closer, I’d definitely be down for dodging some cones. :up:

thanks for it .03 hopefully after peoe read that more peps will be interested. And I'm pretty sure it is SCCA event. And they guy runnin it was very entusiastic about it he even took a few NOLA members for rides during his run. I think it will be a he'll of alot of fun.

I've seen more cars wreck and/or break shit autocrossing then I've seen wrecks on the road, so how can you say it's not much more wear and tear on it?

It does eat your tires. After 4 autocrosses that I when to, my tires where damn near bald. Only had 20,000 miles on them and rotated them every oil change.

Now with that said, yes, it's fun as hell and if I still had my old xB I'd probably still be doing it, but I'm not with this one.

If this is a normal SCCA event, then pretty much everyone would be in the same class, STS, cuz we all have either a suspension mod, or a performance mod.

I suppose, it is a box though, not so fast and not so wonderful at handling corners. I don't have sway bars just a drop and only engine mod I have as short ram intake but umm, I suppose I'd run it just to see how I did. I have raced before wayyyyy back in the day I ran a sprint car for a season in Florida, loved it just couldn't afford to keep doing it. So, I'm not a total race virgin I suppose. Either way, watching or racing it sounds hella fun!

Who have yall been talking to? Benson with the Yellow S2k? I know there is an event in Feb sometime. If its at Zephyers its prob Delta SCCA, but its exclusive to scions or is he just having a side thing for Scions on the event already scheduled? I know one time a bunch fo 240 guys had what was called a "Silvia Challenge" between them and other people raced also.

Anyhow AutoX doesn't hurt your car at all. If you come with a hunk of junk then yes your car might break.....as far as tires I still have plenty tread left after daily driving and 3 AutoX so far....plus the last one I was drifitng around on fun runs too lol......It is BY FAR the funnest thing I have ever done....I had loads of fun in the tC too when I did it with that.

as far as the date goes it will prob be in march and i think the guys name is darrel he drives a blue miata. and from what i got he was sayin it would be just scions. thats if we can get enough cars together. i was talkin to someone the other day that does autox alot and he said that we would need 40/50 cars . so that way one group could run there cars and the other can pick up cones and then switch.

I was really surprised how well it handled. It's got a really low center of gravity believe it or not.

Won't matter. The xD will handle like garbage with those big ass sidewalls on the stock tires. You'll get way more pitching with the soft sidewall and still scrape.

so heres the deal so far. we have been tryin to get intouch with the guy that runs the events through a forum that he told us we could contact him on. but whenever lance tries to sign up for the site it kicks him off and when i signed up i never recieved my activation email. So i will be goin to an autox event on feb 1st and will talk to the guy then. i will try to set up a date then so ill keep everyone posted.
