so tonight i go out to my car to run and get some food. Turn the car on and the rev goes straight to 2k and holds there. So i rev it a little to see if it'll knock down. Nope, goes down to 900 then straight back to 2k. weird. So i put it in first and let the clutch out all the way, it doesn't die. It stays at 2k RPM. After driving around the parking lot, whenever i put it from gear to nuetral it bounces from 900 to 2k continuously. And when it didn't do that it just sat at 2k. Checked the throttle cable, seemed normal. I'm stumped. It's a 5spd 05, just about to roll over 30k miles. Someone help me!

Like Jon said.
You could check for a vacuum leak.
Is the cold light off and still a high idle?

i've got the 10yr/100k warranty so i'm good to go. i figure its either a vacuum leak or a tps problem. oh well. off to the dealership

i had this happen to me a few months ago. i was stumped for a few days, and right before i went to the dealer i noticed that my floor mat was pushing down my gas pedal a wee bit... yeah, that's right. it'll either be really simple, or a bitch for the dealer to fix. i hope its simple!

ok, so this afternoon i talked to the assistant service manager. They said it was water that had got in my intake that ruined my idle temperature control. BS. Haven't driven one second when the snow and ice were on the ground. and this problem started last monday night. $350 somethin dollars for a new one plus labor. Not covered under warranty because it wasn't an AEM or TRD intake. GAY! At least the guys at Bob Howard can be semi-decent. the assistant manager is gonna try and knock off part of the cost for me because he doesn't think it should not be covered by warranty. Still pissed that i have to pay anything. What do ya'll think?

That sucks. How do they know WHAT caused it. If you're in the 3 36 they should take care of it.
If it happens again, than I would say oh well, pay the man.
Kick, scream, bitch to make it happen. $350.00 bucks!
Where is this thing, and what is it made out of? Gold. I'm going to do some serching on this.

i don't know where exactly the sensor or control is. The guy said that the mechanic looking at it traced it back from the codes it was throwing to this problem. When i told him the car had not been ran at all during the snow/ice/melting he kinda paused then bs'd right along again. It was like pulling teeth to get him to tell me how much it was going to cost and that it wasn't going to be under warranty. He said "his hands were tied" because thats what the shop foreman had decided. BTW i have the 10 yr/ 100k mile warranty and i'm right around 28k miles.

Ya, the kind that think every little problem relates to your aftermarket items. It's bullshit. You can always try calling Scion too, they help with that stuff sometimes too.

You have an extended warranty on top. That is BS! I 've been searching all morning on this "idle temperature control" and find nothing.
Could it be the MAF (mass air flow sensor) ? The part you take off the stock filter and add it to the aftermarket one.
That dealer is crap to make you pull out of pocket. Start making some calls.

no i know it's not the MAF sensor, we checked that when i dropped it off hoping it was just a vaccum leak. I'm gonna put in a call to scion later and see what i can get out of them. Maybe a threat from the 3rd or 4th largest scion club out there will get a reaction

could they possibly have been talking about the IAC unit (idle air control).
it is basically an air bypass valve in the throttle body that regulates the idle speed while the throttle blade is closed. i have heard of moisture causing corrosion on this little plunger type valve causeing it to stick open. but usually on gm engines. havent heard much about it in toyota engines happening.
mine has always had a slightly low idle that fluctuates from around 600 rpm to 1000rpm. but it only doeas it with the a/c off after sitting in traffic for a while.
sound to me like they might be jerking you off a little. i would ask them for a list of the codes it was throwing. im sure that if you post them up, with as many techs as we have in here some one will chime in with an answer.
good luck with it. hope it get resolved soon..

To me it sounds like the MAF sensor might have gotten fried... It could be a ton of other stuff too, though. This is why you save all your stock parts - Put the stock airbox back in and then have them (or another dealership) check it out. Also - check to make sure your gas cap's in tight. That could cause the CEL.
