Okay, so I know I haven't backed up into any curbs, or hit any speed bumps or anything. My exhaust was fine for the meet on Saturday night. Then, I'm going out to my car on Sunday in a parking lot, and my exhaust looked funny. Upon closer inspection, I found that the tip is gone. I took some pictures for you guys and when I was putting them on my computer, I realized I had pictures from the day I got my car, and then from this week...here's what I found.
Brand New, obviously nothing wrong. (with a close up on where the tip is welded to the muffler)

Within the last week, does the weld look cracked? (again, with a close up on where the tip is welded to the muffler)

And now look at this shit.

If the dealership refuses to take care of this, then I guess it's time to call Charlie at Stup for new exhaust, and a header too.

That weld is definately cracked. I just hope they don't try to screw you out of warranty because of your mods. Even though they don't effect the exhaust, you know how dealerships can be.

I figure if Toyota/Scion gives me shit, I can talk to DC Sports as backup atleast. I'm about to post this on SL and see if anyone else had this problem. I was pissed. I'm supposed to go up to the dealership this weekend and see what they have to say. I don't see how they could even try to say it's because of my mods...it's a shitty weld, that's all. It wasn't very thick to begin with, and that piece is going to be exposed to huge changes in temperature. I'm just not sure if Toyota will take care of it because it is DC exhaust...they may expect me to take it up with DC, which I guess is understandable. But since Toyota put DC exhaust on their cars, I would hope Toyota would deal with DC for me atleast.

Yeah i think that since the car came like that from the factory Toyota should handle it and they should go thru DC not you directly becuase you didnt purchase the exhaust from DC you got it with the car that came from toyota. Personally i would go on DC sites and read their warranty policy to see whats up.

A few people on SL responded with the same issue. They said they have to replace the whole exhaust, which means I probably won't get the muffler that is enscribed...oh well.

Not that you end up wit a stock exhaust.

Would you get a stock one in return?? that would suck if you did.

Naw, they'll replace it with the axle back exhaust by DC, and they better have the RS 2.0 badge on the side. Or else... :guns:
I just realized what they meant when they said "I got Jimmy'd." :rofl2:

Check the weld where the tip meets the muffler and see if it's cracking like in the second picture. If it is, take it to the dealership and tell them to replace it before it falls off and causes a wreck.

Checked the weld on the exhaust tip on my RS2, looks good, no cracks. I didn't know it had an RS2 plate on the right hand side until Hank mentioned it.

I just got back from the dealership on this one, they are replacing my exhaust under warranty.
I wonder how many times they are going to order the wrong part!
I told them, "It's not the TRD sport muffler that you guys install...it's not the chrome tip that's an accessory for stock mufflers...it's the DC Axle back exhaust for the RS 2.0s."

Hey Everyone,
I went down to the dealership too and at first the service guy didn't sound like it would get replaced especially because im 2000 miles over warranty, but then the Service manager walked in I explained and showed him the shitty welds and he said to order everything and they would replace it for free. I reccomend that If anyone has the same problem, just go straight to the service manager and explain to him that not just you, but more than a dozen people have had the same problem. Because the service guy try to say that there are millions on cars with our exhaust which was total bull shit becuase only the RS 2.0 came with that exhaust and who knows maybe other people who have DC exhaust had the same problem. But I've learned that making a BIg Scene about something usually gets you wat you want. Just some advice if you get any crap from these service jerk offs.
Thanks for the threads mike.

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else?
mafiamike
05-02-2006, 05:19 PM
It happened to a lot of the RS 2.0s.
*Update* Fowler Scion called me yesterday and they had my exhaust in already! It is the DC exhaust and it still has the RS 2.0 badging! They got it right the first time. They will install it on Saturday for me.

Mike, this post came in handy. I find myself checking on the exhaust tip often, before this, I would have never even thought about it. Thanks

Yeah, when I get the new one, I'm spot welding it on the inside of the tip to keep it from happening again.
