So, when I took off my bumper to replace my grills, I was taking a look at my air filter and noticed the rubber was cracking. Looks like when they installed it, they used glue around the rubber opening and that caused the rubber to be brittle and crack. I'm sure it would have been fine with just the hose clamp, but when I found it only about 1/4 of the rubber was still attached, and my filter was kinda flapping like the Canadians' heads on South Park. I duct tapped it for now, so I can take it to the dealership and bitch and hopefully get a new filter...cause no one local has a cone filter for 2 1/4 piping anyways.

Hah, I'm only pissed cause it's a bitch to get a cone filter for a 2 1/4 inch pipe around here. The only AEM authorized dealer in OKC tried to tell me AEM doesn't even make a cone filter for a 2 1/4 inch pipe. I was like, yeah...they do. He told me it'd be like...$50 to special order one. I told him to fuck off. I didn't have any luck finding a K&N or anything else for that size pipe either. Atleast my filter is hidden so no one can see the duct tape. :rofl2:

I know I really want to get rid of it but I like the bypass valve that comes with it.

the bypass is nothing but a piece of foam that would break itself into lil pieces after a while.

the bypass is there in case you suck up water it opens flaps from the inside so dont

but like jimmy said it is starting to disintegrate cause of all the heat so I capped mine again. I kept the stupid piece of foam hopefully it will work when I need it.

So check this shit out, I went to Auto Zone and had them order a K&N for a 2 1/4 pipe. I went to pick it up a week later, and look what that asshole fucking ordered:

Shit's tiny! So, K&N makes 2 different size filters for a 2 1/4 pipe, this one with a 3 1/4 inch base and 2 inch top, and the one I told him to order, with a 5 1/2 inch base and 4 inch top...gotta wait a few more days now.

thats funny cus I was thinkin the other day, a friend of mine needs a filter for his AEM intake also on his xA. He goes up to autozone and they tell them they can't get it. He calls me, I look up online, get him the exact dimensions he needs, 5 1/2 inch base 4 inch top, 2 1/4 opening.
I'm like ok, w/e.
So I'm at pep boys? or one of those other ones w/ the g/f getting air and oil filters, I see this big sign for K&N Performance filters and intakes. So I ask the guy if they offer the filters for cold air intakes. He says yea. I sayd I got a friend, its the standard 2 1/4 piping used by K&N, but its an AEM brand, can you guys order it? He tells me No, cus they don't eal in AEM. Told him I'd just need the filter to fit the piping. He said yea, but it wouldn't fit, they're different sizes.
so i said ok, thank you and left. what was the magic wording you used to get them to order this filter for you? although it was apparently the wrong one in the end ...

They ordered the right one this time. K&N makes 2 different sizes for a 2 1/4 pipe. Somehow the dumbass ordered the wrong one, after I told him the right one. Anyways, just go to Autozone and ask to see the K&N parts catalog. Look up the part number and tell them to order it. It's $39.99. I'll just tell you the part number when I pick mine up on Tuesday.
