I've used whistler for years. Radar detectors in general aren't 100% accurate, but the best ones that I've used, seen have been whistler. I never really liked cobra or... forgot the name of it.
Only down side to the whistler products coming out are they're wireless (battery powered) for the most part, though some have the option to plug in.

Time and time again, Valentine has been chosen the best. However, it is also the most expensive. One of the cars in our convoy back from S3 had an Escort detector and it let us know twice of cops waiting down the road for us.

I have been a faithful escort user. I have the escort 7800. a great radar detector. My father uses the the 8500. also a great detector. Very accurate. I have heard that valentine 1 is a good one too, but never seen it. my experience lies with the escort. I have used the other cheaper detectors and found that the escort is the most accurate. Hope this helped.

Escort Passport X50 8500 is the number 1 rated by most. Valentine V1 is on the level too. Both are pretty expensive.
I've used a cheap cobra detector and it did nothing for me.
The Biggest threat to you is LASER. The Escort Passport 8500 is compatable with the Escort Shifter ZR3 - the Laser Jammer. It will allow you to detect and jam the oncoming laser, with enough time to slow down and turn off the jamming mode.

I am looking at a really good site now for high end detectors and jammers. It has a lot of good information on it, check it out http://www.radarbusters.com

maybe but its proven that passive lazer jammers don't work. just not possible.

Thank you for the thread. I need a radar detector but I am scarred to be caught with one on the windsheild. I believe it will be an instant ticket.

There are also detectors that can be setup as stealth systems - in dash, etc.

Thanks to everybody. Wow... I didn't think I was going to get these many answers in such a short time. I think I'm getting the ESCORT Passport 8500 X50. Thanks again... It's really helpful all your posts.

Stealth systems are PRICEY.
The Escort Passport SRX and SR7 systems can be radar/laser detectors or radar/laser detectors AND laser shifters.
The price on that though, is about $1500.
The Passport SR7 (radar/laser detector only) is about $1100.
