I installed a Pioneer in-dash DVD unit over the weekend and could not get rid of the pesky "Video not available while vehicle is in motion."
First, I grounded the parking brake switch wire but that had no effect, still had the same message. Then I resorted to reading the directions but they were misleading and said to connect the wire to the "power supply" side of the switch. Reading that too litterally, I connected the wire to the ignition hot and, of course, it didn't work. After a conversation with Clay (krazylowgsx), it occured to me that the parking break switch is simply a ground wire and the switch simply completes the circuit (like all good switches are supposed to). With this information, I touched the wire to another grounded bolt head and the video came on. Well, I loosened the bolt and attached the wire and re-tightened the bolt. Everything worked fine until I drove to work this morning. Again, there was no video with the same stupid message. Thinking my ground was no good, I found another ground source and reconnected the wire and, again, the video worked.....until I turned the ignition off and back on....no video. That's when it finally occured to me that they (Pioneer) set it up so that the parking brake has to be re-set everytime the ignition is switched off and on....to keep people like me from simply grounding that silly little wire and having video whenever you want it and not just when the parking brake is set.....sneaky bastards.
Anyway, simple fix was to hook up a switch in the video grounding wire so I can reset the ground as needed. Just thought I would throw this out there so no one else has to go through two days of pulling their hair out the way I did and to see if anyone else has a better solution.
