I just hooked mine up today....just wanted to guage interest to see if anyone would want a DIY. Its a simple, and very inexpensive mod! Not to mention a security feature, as the key will no longer actually start the car. The key is still needed to turn the ignition to acc to turn on your fuel pump, but that is all it does! Will not turn the starter!! So.....anyone interested?
DIY Push Button Start
Matrials needed:
1- momentary switch(valet switch for an alarm works great)
and some simple wire connectors(male and female, t taps, ect.)
Step 1
Find your starter wire(located in your ignition harness)
Find your 12v keyed(acc wire)
Step 2
T tap keyed wire and run new wire from T tap to one side of your momentary switch(does not matter which wire)
Step 3
Cut your starter wire about 3" from the block it goes into, just under the stearin wheel(leave this so if you ever want to remove the bush button, you can hook your starter wire back into the block)
Connect starter wire to other side of your switch
Put your car back together, and mount your switch where you want it!
Remember, the key is still needed to turn to the ACC position, so that your fuel pump will turn on, and the car will start! You can turn the key to the start position, but it will not do a dayum thing!!
Now, turn the key to the ACC position, push your button, and boom....you now have a push button start!!! WOOT
Pics of my switch....(its the botton one, the top is the LED alarm indicator)

Alright, give me a little time and I will put a DIY together....to answer the question, this will work for any model, make, any car actually. The only thing that will change will be the wire colors you will have to tap and cut!! I will explain all that!!

Yeah def don't want to cut the wires telling the ecu that a registered key is inserted. Looking forward to the DIY.

You can get any kind of switch you want, just so long as its a momentary! I know they make the stock lookin ones that say "Start" on em, but those things are HUGE, and Fugly!

3 Questions.....
1. can you hook it up to a toggle switch? Like flip the toggle switch on, then press the start button? I noticed a few videos linked to yours that have it and are AWESOME, but can it be done to the tC?
2. One video shows a "true" push button start with the use of no keys, is this wise, and can be done?
3. I have the viper 5900 remote start on a manual tC, would my auto start be unfunctional or can still be used?
Thanks

1. **THIS MOD CAN BE DONE TO ANY CAR** The only thing that will change are the wire colors inside your ignition harness! Yes you can hook up a toggle if you like, be a bit more wiring though, you would have to take your keyed to the toggle, then out of the toggle into your momentary switch. Also, for a setup like that you might not want to cut the started wire from the block, maybe just T tap it, that way the ignition can still be used, but if you want to show off, throw the toggle, then push the button.
2. It can be hooked up to be a "true" push button, but 1 it leaves your car more vulnerable to theft, as you do not have to have a key to get it started, and 2, the wiring is going to be a bit more tricky, as you are going to have to put your fuel pump on a toggle as well, so that you can turn it on and off, without the key having to be in the ACC position.
3. Yes the remote start will still work just fine. I have the Clifford 50.5x on my car, and the remote start works just as it always has!

When hooking into a toggle switch you will have to remember to turn the switch back to the off position once the car is started, otherwise your starter will just sit there and grind itself to death!! Literally!! :lol:With a momentary switch you just hold down the button till it starts, then release and are done!

I see what you are saying. Damn I would love to do that but if my wife drives it she might forget. Well on to the momentary switch. I will try to figure something out creative. Thanks

Thats pretty damn cool ! I would love something like that but having it done to a 2008 rs tc is pretty risky for me so i'll just wait for a little. lol I saw another button next to the push start. Is that button for your leds?

Mine -- key has to be in cylinder so not really risky at all.

it would not be risky at all for the 08. All you have to do is find a wiring diagram for the 08 and figure out your wire colors. All ignition harnesses are the same. Directechs.com will have all the info you need!

That is exactly how mine is set up. Key has to be in the cylinder, and turned to the ACC position!

about how much did this cost you?
Under $15!! Valet switch - $2
10ft roll of 12g red wire - $4
10ft roll of 12g black wire - $4
then your t taps and such, shouldn't be very expensive! I have a buddy who is manager of an audio shop, so I got to use all of their connectors for free!!

Its simple to do so long as you know a little bit about electrical!!
I have had mine for 3-4months now, and love it! Its pretty sweet when someone gets in your car to start it, turns the key, and then looks at you and goes "WTF, your car is dead!"

A light bulb is in the inside of Switch, and the character of the "ENGINE START" stands out.
You can get the switch here.

If you guys do this mod be sure to get a normally open momentary switch. If you get a normally closed switch as soon as you turn your key to acc it will start and and your starter will be cracking until you turn your car off or push the button down.
Found this out the hard way.
