My CAT is starting to smell and the dealer won't replace it under Federal Emissions unless the Check Engine Light is on.
SO..
I was just browsing around and found a stainless steel test pipe(eliminates cat) and stainless steel headers(eliminates first cat) for 101$ for both.
GOOD DEAL??
Well will it throw Check engine light codes?
People keep saying yes and no...so I'm lost lol
Let me know from people with experiences
Thanks in advance!!!

If you remove cats, you will throw a CEL. There are sensors after the cats to check their efficiency. If you remove the cats, those sensors will register that the cats aren't doing their job and will throw a CEL.
...and because I said "cats" so much in that post...MEOW!!!

Is there a way to make it so the check engine light wont come on? Cause I know if there is no cats and the O2s read it...it could go into limp-mode...
Let me know :D

It was my understanding that as long as you have bungs for your O2 sensors and they are installed correctly, that it should be all good. At the same time you would want to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a few hours or so. I'm not completely certain though because I haven't done a header yet or remove my cats. Stock for now...

It will throw cel definitely , I'm running strup header, eBay s pipe to a Dezod catback exhaust, there are ways to fix the cel with the anti fouler mod

Btw my cel is still on....I did the anti fouler and it worked for me basically it pushes the sensor farther away to trick the car into thinking it's getter same air flow...someone correct me if I'm wrong... So mine worked for a Lil while so I could at least pass emissions and cel would remain off as long as I didn't take it in the highway which I thought was weird but its cuz it was getting alot more air at a more constant rate, regular city driving it would remain off even when I really got on it.. So ya could try that I'm sure others can share there experience I know there are people out there that have done the mod and cel remains off...

You only do the anti fouler mod on second o2 sensor which is on s pipe

Cause I know if there is no cats and the O2s read it...it could go into limp-mode...
This is incorrect. It won't put the car into limp mode. You'll have a CEL, but the car will still drive fine. Only serious engine problems put the car into limp mode (like significant knock or misfires).

Here is a link to the Weapon-R CEL eliminator. This is a universal part, but also available specifically for the tC. Weapon-R's header comes with the s-pipe and is one of the only 4-2-1 headers for the tC, that is why this part is made.

When my friend and I installed my megan headers we went to auto zone and spent 15 dollars on four 18mm non foul spacers, the one that you screw the o2 sensor into we used a drill press and expanded the size on the hole to hold the o2 sensor then put two more 18mm non foul spacers between the s-pipe and the sensor. So far no CEL an great improvement in power!

It's a cheaper alternative to spending 40 dollars on an anti fouler made by Weapon R. All you really need in three 18mm spacers, a drill press, wd-40, and patience.

why don't you just unplug one of the sensors or create a bad connection....that should throw a code for the cat.

I have the weapon r header and s pipe with the cell eliminater. My light just came on saying the second o2 sensor was bad. Why now? Lol its been like 15k mi lol. So my 2 cents is that it worked for me atlest for 15k
