well guys and girls the long wait is now over, i have been waiting forever to shell out the cash i needed to buy the dezod s1 kit and ive finally done it! Currently my tc is about to hit 100,000 miles and has i/h/e and have done all modifications by myself including the shocks and springs. I was just looking to see if you guys had any tips for the install that might help things go a little smoother, ANY TIPS AT ALL to maybe speed up the process and have a smooth install without any delays. I will be having a friend help with the install and i will be taking plenty of pics:p Please chime in and does anyone have an idea of how long it may take to install? I looked on dezods site for the instructions and the thing that looks like it would take the longest would be removing the oil pan and tapping but who knows. -
craig
my friends here in tulsa both had their tC's turbo'd, ill send them over here to see if they got any tips.

make sure you get the oil pan welded to the drain line connection.

Ita not a bad install make sure you run no more then 250 whp and make sure you have a tranny cooler, install isn't too bad at all

You said Auto? Correct?
Well, it's an all day affair and with an auto you will see about 223-225 to the wheels. And that was using the upgraded Phillips ECU offered by Dezod.
You better run the tranny cooler or you will destroy the tranny. The biggest problem is you have no control of your shift points which is a problem all in it self. You will find the rpm will act erratic during boost and your tranny gets confused and shifts during low RPM. It's a small turbo so this thing gets under boost quick, which is part of the problem for the auto tranny. Hell I can get it in to boost in reverse. Just be advised, use the cooler and be prepared for the car to act a little odd at low rpm.
I am now removing my buddies aut tranny out of his TC and installing a manual one as we speak. He hated the way the car acted as an auto. Not to mention he destroyed the auto tranny with no cooler.
You will find everything I am telling you to be correct. You can even deal with Paul Dezod and ask. I've been working with him for the past couple of years on a couple of builds. so please use his advice on this.
Good luck

i also have a killerglass installed im assuming that im going to have to take that off and put on a regular hose because the glass could break and will most likely be in the way of my turbo is that correct?

Wrong on the killerglass I had mine on, I loved my boosted auto tC instant boost never had issues tell I upped the boost I put 255 down at 7psi

i wanna run 7-8 psi, wont go any higher until i get some work done on tranny. Im just playing the waiting game now, im going to have the tranny flushed and i got some a/t fluid from dezod that im going to put in along with the tranny cooler that should be enough for now..

I wouldn't run that much boost man that's gonna put your tranny under a lot I'd stick with six tell you get the work done

04-03-2011, 09:49 AM
I dosen't matter how many times you flush it. And beefing up an automatic to try and even make it worthy for a street car turbo application is like putting perfume on a pig.
You still have no control over shift points, so you will never get that power band like you do in a manual. If your gonna spend money on a tranny just swap it and put in a manual.
and like luckylep said, don't run more than 6 psi on that set-up. You will have problems. I know because I'm changing out my buddies right now to a manual so he can have control over shift points and no longer worry about breaking something.
You'll understand this better when you experience the issues with the auto set-up and you turn up the boost because you think it will handle it and then boom. Then you will reflect back on this thread and go damn.

I would highly recommend an oil pressure gauge.

The killerglass will be fine. I always had mine on the car. Tim makes good stuff.
My only suggestion is watch out for the header nut nearest the alternator, that nut was a bitch for me. Get the right wrench for the job and it makes it much easier. That nut alone cost me about 2 hours before getting the right wrench to get it off.
Also, I'd recommend an entire weekend. Start Friday after work and get going on it. That way, you can take care of any problems along the way without being rushed.

I have a strup header on there now and that nut near the alternator was the hardest to remove when i changed it from stock to the strup header, after i read this you reminded me about that so i went out and sprayed all the header nuts just to try and loosen them up, waited a few minutes found a wrench that fit and it turned without a problem! Glad you mentioned it though so i wouldnt be stuck on it for 2 hours!
I have received everything i ordered except my new brake rotors, the turbo kit itself and the exhaust so im just waiting as patiently as i can >:bash: And as i remember tony you had one of your gauges below your center council in the cubby hole there, correct? i bought the ati center mount gauge pod that sits above the waterfall and i was just wondering how you ran the wires into the engine bay? Im assuming there is a grommet or hole in the firewall there you can put them through but im not sure where that would be...thanks

I actually had three gauges where the factory headunit originally was. There are two gromments that you can run the wires through into the engine bay. One above the pedals on the driver's side, and a second behind the glovebox. I had various wires running through both.
You can see my gauges here:

Just waiting on the manifold!, a couple more things... First I found a place called performance Autowerks that would do a dyno tune for $500, they have tuned a few tc's with the aem f/ic before so that's good.... I also contacted another place called Hollywood motors that has a few tc's as well and he first offered a street tune since they don't have one in there shop... I'm assuming the street tune that would be done would be alot cheaper but reliability wise how would it be compared to a dyno tune?? Any suggestions??

Can the Auto tC engine and tranny take a duel turbo setup? I assume you'd need to beef things up a bit but as long as you don't have to swap tranny's or engines, I think it'd be pretty sweet.

Why? It may be sweet, but as far as functionality, it falls short. Remember, this is a 2.5 liter displacement car. There really is no reason to run a dual turbo setup on this car.

There's no reason to run two turbos on an inline motor, at least in my opinion. It may spool just a touch faster than a single but you lose top end. Also there's all the plumbing involved with a dual setup. Just not worth the hassle. How small of a turbo can you get?

Please be patient. In the end, you will thank youself for the time waited. Patience is important to ensure the parts turn out 100% perfect. These pieces are VERY easy to mess up and we need to devote tons of time to ensure all are 100% correct and you have an awesome piece.

More info on the new part here:

Note, time elapsed between pics.....This is largely due to machine time. Machinists are very busy in town and to do one unit is VERY expensive and they put you low on production time frames because they are making 1000s for another customer or even 100....So we are at their mercy, but luckily we have the right formula with respect to tolerances now and are marching forward with quantity orders...Let's see how long this takes the machine shop.

Looks good. You might want to double check the vac line hook ups on your wastegate. It is contingent upon what vac ports you have hooked to it AND how many. Consult the manual to it for details and figure out what boost you want to run. It is an auto, I'd recommend 5 PSI or so.

I have ports c and d hooked up I believe that is for 5 or 6 psi, I really wanna do 7 or 8 still. I don't have that wastegate booklet with me it's with the car at the shop I'm having Josh from Hollywood motors tune the car.

That really irritates me when shops do that. I know they are busy, but they shouldn't tell you they'll have it in on a certain day, then keep pushing it back. Personally, I'd be looking for a different shop. I guess my lack of patience is what prompted me to do my research before I bought my turbo. I read up on how to tune cars myself and started off with a decent base map for my setup. Then, I slowly tweaked the map and ended up with a pretty solid tune.
I hope things start falling into place for you, Craig, so that you can enjoy the turbocharged goodness of your tC.

Oh I agree about shops delaying being aggravating. I am not making excuses for anyone, however it does happen from time to time. This is why I try to keep our customers in the loop as to what's going on every step of the way when we have their car. It eliminates these feelings.

Well I guess it was finally pulled in... Few things I'm told one of the intercooler pipes is bent and unusable??? Not blaming anyone for it, but I'm pretty sure there were no problems with any pipes I received in fact there were barely a scratch on them when I received them, no dents or anything... Only thing I could think of is maybe when it got towed.. But once again not blaming anyone. Informed Josh I would like him to contact Dezod or inform me which pipe it is so it can be ordered I informed him I have a $50 credit that can be used.
Yes I know patience is a virtue but it reall sucks especially since I've been dreaming of turboing my car ever since I bought it and browsed online and really became aware of the cars potential, and that's Been a couple years lol...Tony I understand your point but I'm not willing to pull the car especially since it would have to be towed to another and wait some more...
Monday will be two weeks without my baby and I hope it doesnt take much longer since I can't be without a car even a few days.
I was told by someone who used to work in a shop that they try an take on the quickest and easiest job right away so they can make quick cash Is this true? I'm assumming it is since it would be in the favor and to them would be considered business smart...but why keep pushing it off?
Another thing is I don't get calls from this shop letting me know the details....I usually get a reply back via email, whether it's because I beat him to it or what I feel I should be kept in the loop the minute something comes up... I was told about the intercooler pipe yesterday and still hVe not heard anything back via email or phone call. I just want to know that the problem is being handled asap instead of possibly getting pushed back to Monday...
Dezod have you been contacted??
I just want to make it clear that I am not bashing anyone or any shops I just want answers and to drive my turbo tc <3
