View Full Version : Throttle Lag

I have a week old 2011 xB. The throttle seems to have roughly a 3-500ms delay when I depress or release it causing problems like overrevs when shifting (5 speed), and delays with acceleration. Is this just typical performance of the toyota/scion "drive by wire" system or could there some kind of maf or ecu issue. The car has performed like this since I got it, and I'm up to 600 miles.
Thanks for any thoughts/opinions on this!

This is because of the drive by wire system. There are devices that will help to improve this reaction time, but I can't remember which ones are the preferred ones. I will let others step in to help out with this recommendation. I would also recommend waiting the full 1000 miles of break-in before hammering it the the point where you are over-revving the engine.
I have an issue with accidentally over-revving because of this as well and wish that I could just adjust the limiter to redline (for protection) without EMS and all those tuning shenanigans...

It's the DBW. I like how precise you are with this....

I think that if the delay is more than half a second, you have much bigger issues on your hands than DBW. On my 05 tC, there was a slight delay, but nothing I noticed until I drove a cable throttle and noticed a slightly faster response time. If the delay is that much, I'd say you have other issues to take care of.

Most of my reading has come up with this being an issue with 6th gen Camry era (07+ until the Camry switched to the 2AR) 2AZs. Not to say that the 05-06 tC didn't have dbw as I had been told but maybe something about all the changes to the electronics made the issues more prevalent. I really notice a difference from my tC to the xB2 when I shift. The xB will jump up a couple hundred RPM when I push the clutch in to shift.
I'm with Tony though. I think you have a different issue. Since you said else where that it developed over a couple months and due to the age of the car I'd look at other things such as throttle linkage or injectors.
Give us some information on the car. We're here to help.
