I would think that would NOT be a common problem. Whats the mileage on it?

I've had several random box shuts down and dash lights go crazy. The engine just shuts off in the middle of driving, the VSC, check engine and traction control lights come on. I traced mine back to a loose EFI fuse in the engine fuse panel. If you're not getting spark, I would guess a loose AM2 fuse. To fix it, I pulled the fuse and with a tiny screwdriver bent the two prongs holding the fuse on one side of the holder closer together so they wouldn't lose contact.
To test if it's the fuse, if you can start your car, leave it running and wiggle the fuse with your finger. If the engine dies, the fuse is loose.
BTW: The fuses are labeled on the underside of the engine fuse block cover.

My daughters xb had the same problem. After doing most of the tests suggested above a very good friend came over and rechecked me with
no success but decided to check the crank sensor, bingo loose crank sensor. After cleaning and reconnecting the sensor it fired right up and
has been running great ever since. Hope this helps you out.
