I just moved into a new house on saturday and last night I left my sunroof tilted open just a tiny bit because my car was soo hot but I made sure to close the little shade screen. when I got in it this morning my ipod which I have custom done into my stereo was gone and the cord that attached it was all ripped out of the center console. I know the doors had been locked so somehow someone fished it through the sunroof or something. So since my car sticks out like a sore thumb as a good target I was wondering what kind of alarm system I should get to keep all the stupid thugs out of my baby. I dont have a ton of cash to spend on it but I want some good security.

I would go with a DEI (directed electronics) alarm, whether it be a viper, python, clifford alarm would be good. Make sure to find one that has 2 way LCD pagging so you know when people mess with your car. Also I would recomend getting the proximity (field disturbance) sensor added to the alarm on top of the shock sensor.

Ihave a viper as well and love it! it is the best if u ask me. another good brand in my opinion is autopage. i have had it on my previous cars and some of my friends have it and they love it. its as good as viper in my opinion

DEI alarms are great (i.e. viper) but like was mentioned ..definitely look into something w/a proximity sensor (specially for open windows, sunroofs, etc)...others that i like, autopage, excalibur, clifford, crimestopper, code alarm.

This is the one I have and I absolutely love it!!! Awesome range(3000' range) and the 2-way is nice with 2 Auxiliary outputs. I have my windows tied in for my Aux. outputs!

Compustar 2w900fm-a 2 ways Alarm Paging system

I also reccomend viper or python. Idon't like the proximity sensors though they are a pain the but because the range changes with temp and I don't think they even work that well anyways. I have installed a lot of them and am not impressed.

I bought my Viper 791xv at the flea market in Houston for $150. I added the prox sensor with low sensitivity where it catches the inside only. Ive had this system for over a year now without any issues.

Omar is it hard to install a quality car alarm. I know you can do it but what about anyone else? Pretty much asking for a difficulty level from 1-10, 1 being the easiest and 10 the hardest?

ya the clifford looks pretty good but how much do they usually cost? and did you install it yourself or how much did you pay to install it?

i used to install back in tha early days of car security, circa late 80's-early 90's and outta all the original interior sensors out there the most reliable was the clifford proximity sensor...i even remember when they had the omni sensor.

not sure how to rate it. if you dont have any elec tech background I would recommend jumping in and doing it yourself. I used my waekon volt tester to do the install, Ive integrated a couple of things with my alarm so its not basic.

DEI for the win. DEI makes the majority of the good alarms out in the market. Python, Viper, Clifford ect.

Yes DEI is the BEST in my book. I install them everyday. Just make sure it is installed properly. The number one reason that an alarm doesn't work properly is because of an improper installation. I personally solder and tape ALL my connections on my installs. Difficulty depends on what system you are putting in. Remote starts are sometimes a little more difficult. Also depends if you have a factory immobilizer system(chip in the key). I know that all of the Scions are pretty easy. If you have any questions, PM me.
