View Full Version : Engine Bay Temps

Hey everyone, before recently installing my WR header, I noticed the engine bay ran pretty hot after my normal commute. Now with the header in, Im afraid of the excessive heat. I know many ppl went/want to vented hoods and possible hood lifting, but I like to keep it low pro and have all my mods stealth (keeps the tC's lines clean). I noticed the plastic liner at the bottom of the windshield has some areas around the edges near the struts where I believe it can be cut away. Not cut entirely thru, but if you look close enough, there are already "vent" areas between the windshield and the open space after the hood seals to this plastic piece. I know all this is kinda hard to explain and I'll get pix as soon as I have a day off. Does any of this sound good or bad? Has anyone tried? It seems rain is already allowed to drop down these vents and water where we wash our cars so this could be a great "encouraged" vent when done correctly. Any/all opinions are welcome. Thanks everyone.

What is the purpose of worrying about the ambient temp of the engine bay? I have known a number of guys running turbos that surely increased the temp in the engine bay and they had no issues whatsoever using the stock set up (no venting or hood angling, etc.

The only thing I can think of would be for heat soak? If you have a full CAI, it will be pulling air from below the car/inside the fender and away from the heated components. Outside of that you could probably remove the splash shields and that will pull more hot air out of the bay from below potentially.

That is my $.02.

If that's the case im not gunna worry about it...i was just alil concerned. Ive got a full CAI and have the piping near the engine wrapped in thermal tape to battle the heat soak prior to intake so looks like i've got my bases covered. Thanks for the info.

Like they said not an issue

Wrapping headers keeps the inside temps cooler and gas extracting a little faster but the wrap looks like heck and holds moisture when cold that can cause rust and rot.
