No one makes a true purple LED
Maybe UV / blacklight, but not purple.

The UV is pretty purple. It's not a very bright purple but it is purple. Ask Sarahashley if she has any pics of her car, I know she has UV in hers. I would load some pics but my computer won't download from my camera so I can't.

Be careful using UV (or possibly even true purple) LEDs. You can damage your eyes VERY quickly especially if you look directly into them. Also, true "purple" LEDs will always seem very dim because the human eye cannot sense colors in wavelengths that are that short. So while a 100mW green LED will make you cringe, you can stare directly into a 100mW UV and not know that you are destroying your vision. UV LEDs are definitely dangerous. I am not sure about true purple. But I wouldn't risk it.
If you want purple, you should either use an RGB LED or a combination of blue and amber LEDs. The blue/amber combination will produce a purer purple, while the red/blue LEDs out of the RGB combination will produce a pinker purple.
Are trying to illuminate something or create a back glow? Or are you trying to diffuse the light and view it directly? If you use two different LEDs, and you are viewing them directly behind a diffuser, you will have to take steps to ensure that the colors are fully mixed.
They DO make LEDs that have a blue and an amber die in the same LED. You can choose the shade of purple by driving the blue at a different current than the amber. That would be your best choice.

This is the guy who knows.
I've bought UV of just about everything and the purple is pretty good on all the LEDs, but the cathodes are hit and miss.
Oznium has UV of just about everything except for SMDs. You can get them off ebay but like it was said earlier, you probably shouldn't use them on an application that you are going to be looking at a lot.

just my 2 cents. depending on the application(ie: how hidden they are) you could always make a filter out of purple translucent cellophane and then use some super bright white leds. just a thought. might be worth using on things like gauges or where uv's would bother your eyes.

received the UV led domelight, only 6 out of the 16 led's on it work, not happy, however, the color is just about right, if you look at the actual led itself its almost blue, it emits a nice dark purple though that looks pretty good when lit up from the outside, those damn things get super-hot though
