Well I got into my first accident with the car today, damn snow. Veronica is at the body shop right now, won't know much more until tomorrow when the body shop gets it up on a hoist.
In a nutshell I had the right away at an uncontrolled intersection and some chick came flying through and hit me in the my front left, then spun me so I hit my rear left again with her car. Everyone was OK just a little pissed. From what I saw its repairable just have to wait and see what the verdict is.

sorry to hear man. It seems like people drive faster and more stupid every year. I used to enjoy a casual drive anywhere. But since driving has become a chore and the roads are more congested than ever my car stays parked most days

So any word on the damage?
I bet she was texting and driving.... that shit is more dangerous than road head.
Working in downtown saint paul, I end up having to "avoid" an accident almost every week. It's a shame, but people are more distracted with cell phones that ever...

I got a call from the Adjuster guy and he said that so far the damages are totaling up to be about $9200. He said that I need a new hood, bumper, fenders, and new rear left quarter panel. Then they would repaint the doors and all the new parts, so almost a new paint job.
I will know more exacts on Friday but I am hoping they don't total it out

Sounds like they might total it. That sux but just get a new tc like the brand new one!

Hope everything turns out okay! If they total it, I hope you have GAP insurance (if you need it)

Well Insurance is covering all the repairs. The total damage came to $9800 and is 65% of the value of the car. So I squeaked under the 70% that would have totaled it out. Bright side is I get almost a complete paint job out of the deal. They are estimating I get the car back around February 14, until then I am driving around in a 2010 Silverado Crewcab. The truck is really nice but the gas mileage sucks lol.
I have some pics on my camera that I will upload once I get them off of there.

Sorry to hear about your ride. You are very lucky that they did not total it. It does not take much to total a car these days.

Well I got my car back on Tuesday and I am very glad to have it back. But when I went to pick it up I noticed that they put the 2005-2007 headlights in my car. They also mounted my front license plate when I called and told them not to but that's besides the point.
I asked them about the headlights and they said when they ran the VIN those were the parts that came back on it which left me really confused. So now I have my 2008 tC with older style headlights.

That sucks. I would go to the other drivers insurance company and tell them you want them switched out for the right ones.
Good luck

I talked to the body shop and they said those were the right ones according to the VIN, and there's nothing they can really do about it.
So my other question was if my car is an 08 then why do I have a 07 VIN..?

I would call scion corp about that and raise HELL. Sound to me like they had an 07 and just put in the heads and tails to make an 08.

Do you have pics of the car from when you got it? Just to show it with the 08 lights. Also aren't the wiring harnesses different from the two headlights? 05-07 uses 9006 low beam and 08-10 uses H11.

Did you buy it new or used?
The 10th number in the VIN tells you what year it is... If its a 7 then its a 2007 if its a 8 then its a 2008...
JDub86
02-21-2011, 02:55 PM
I bought it brand new, and I had to wait a couple months to get it as well.
I also just checked the 10th number and it is an 8, the sticker on the door said it was manufactured in june 2007.

Well thats normal that it was built on 07 to be a 2008...
I would contact the body shop and have them fix there mistake and if they wont contact your insurance company and tell them about what happened cause when you do trade it in beside's the huge accident on the carfax the wrong parts will drop the value...

Well when I picked it up I told them about how the headlights were wrong but they made it seem like there wasn't anything they could do. They said they would look into it but I haven't heard from them yet. I e-mailed Scion to see what they had to say and haven't heard back from them yet.
I will get in touch with my insurance guy and see what he has to say.

You need to play angry consumer with the body shop. take in pictures before the accident with the 2008 headlights. Don't let them tell you that there is nothing that they can do because there is plenty they can do. Tell them their parts system is wrong if they pull that vin number crap again.
If your insurance paid the body shop directly, ask them to stop payment until the repairs are actually complete.
If you paid the body shop directly, call your bank and ask them to stop payment for those reasons.

Well I talked to my Insurance Rep today and he said that the body shop is still trying to find the right headlights for my car. From what I am getting out of it they put the other style headlights in because they werent able to track down the projector style headlights. Which to me doesn't make much sense.
On top of that my check engine light came on when I was driving home from work.....FML

Yeah thats the tough part about a car that was that close to being totaled...
Even when you get it back all fixed it still isn't the same then little things start to go wrong and you wish they just would have totaled it cause now with that big accident the trade in value dropped huge...

With that much body damage, I'm not suprised.
when I took out the light pole on highway 77 a few years ago, not only was there 2 grand in body work needed, they also discovered that it needed another 2 grand in suspension work.
If there is a hefty mechanical bill, you can try to get the insurance company to total it.... since it should have been totaled in the first place.

It will be pretty tough to get them to total it at this point since they just dumped a bunch of money into it to get it all fixed...
It is looking like its trade in time...

Well the check engine light didn't come on until about a week after I got it back. I have been driving it and it seems to be running just fine, hopefully I can get it checked out tomorrow.
About the whole trade in thing, I don't I should because my credit is shit as it is. Plus if I trade it in my monthly payment will probably just be higher than it is right now. When I first bought the car I was planning on keeping it forever and driving it into the ground anyways.
But I dunno, we'll wait and see.

Just pull into autozone and have them pull the code. Its real quick... the other thing you could do is disconnect the battery for awhile (but you won't know what caused the code.) My CEL was on for awhile because a rock or a chuck of ice damaged the rear o2 sensor. It still ran completely fine though.
It's probably better that your car didn't get totaled in your situation then. Trying to get a new loan with shitty credit sucks.

Yeah I have a feeling its something to do with an o2 sensor. I will find out today.

my car threw the Bank 1 sensor 2, and an PCM fault code due to the sensor being bad. so if it is your rear o2 sensor don't worry about the ecm being bad, you just have to disconnect the battery for about 20 minutes to clear that fault code out of the ecm after the o2 sensor is replaced.

The code was for a small leak in my EVAP System. My TPMS Light was also on and my mechanic said that a sensor was probably damaged from the accident, the same with the EVAP thing.
Looks like I get to make more phone calls....

or they just didn't reset the tpms system.
you should check your gas cap, a loose or bad cap can cause that code as well.

The cap isn't loose, I always twist it like four times.

even though it clicks, it could still not be making a proper seal. Check it out the next time you fill up to make sure its' not damaged or dirty. Its not something that normally happens, but its more common than you think. Especially in Minnesota with all the fluctuations in temperature this time of year.
