View Full Version : No more missed shifts! Ready to race.
I don't know how many times I went to downshift and missed the gear or had to finesse the gears. I talked to the dealer regarding the problem and even took a new TC out to see if there was a difference. The transmission has a hard time at high RPM's. I very seldom flog my vehicle, but when a situation arrises, I can't afford to miss the gear. I was told by the dealer that there was nothing to be done.
They were wrong!!
I heard from a friend that he swapped one quart of fluid in his trans for high end synthetic gear oil and his problems stopped. Of course I was skeptical, but I opted to try it. Recently, I switched the fluid out (2.6 qts) to full synthetic. It took less than 30 minutes with no special tools. Easier than an oil change. The difference was noticed immediately... I was able to keep the throttle floored through all gears without any fight. I tried downshifting into the 5k range and had no difficulties.
I ran the car hard for 2 hours and never missed another gear. This fluid Rocks!

I know the shifting problem you are talking about. At the strip, I would miss gears from time to time because it just wouldn't want to go into gear. With both the stock shifter and Megan short shifter both showed this problem. My fix was to get NST's stainless steel shifter bushings and their Short Shifter Kit. The SSK just went in about 2 weeks ago and I love it. Very easy to install and works great. This past weekend, I went drag racing on Saturday, then autocrossing on Sunday. Not one missed shift.

damn looks like it is time for a short shifter, some bushings, and some synthetic gear fluid huh?? i have this problem alot and it drives me crazy!!!
The QTY and link are on the original post. Just use a 15/16 to pull the drain plug on the bottom of the trans. Pull the fill plug on the front and put in 2.6 qts. It was that easy. Make sure and use the ZO# if you order. I will be switching over to the 0-30W signature synthetic tommorrow. The filter catches down to 7 microns compared to the 50 microns of the competitors. The oil will last 1yr/25,000 miles (less oil changes) and Increase gas mileage. I will post afterwards the difference.

Completed the oil change today. I immediately noticed the engine was quieter and idled smoother. Took a 30 mile drive and it seems like the car coasted better and accelerated smoother. I will be tracking the mileage to see if I get the claimed 2-3 mpg increase. The previous four tanks have averaged 24.8 mpg (60% city/40% freeway. I would love to see the car average 27+. I will keep everyone informed of the outcome. The least I can say is no more oil changes needed for 1 yr/35,000 miles whichever comes first.
