Anybody else have a rattle in their dash? It's located on the top flat portion in between the steering wheel and left side of the HVAC/radio console. I can take my finger and tap on the location and it makes a rattle (more of a rattle than just the plastic of the dash making the noise). Tap on the top side of the dash on the passenger side and it's more solid (at least doesn't make the underlying rattle sound).

When I bought my xD I also test drove a dealer promo xD they were selling with 400 miles on it and it seemingly had the exact same rattle so I'm guessing it's not that uncommon.

Any ideas aside from taking it to the dealer?

Thanks,

Trenton

I've got the same one too. It did not start until I took out the factory radio to get a look at the back of it. I think when I put it back together I moved the wiring harness out of position. I am going to open it back up and repad and reposition it and see if it goes away. They already put some cheap foam pad tape on it so it figures it may be the cause. If you open yours up you will see. I notice mine the most when I wind it up in 2nd gear...the vibration kinda hits a magic spot.

How do you remove the factory radio? I wouldn't mind taking a look in there and see what I can find.

Just grab the top of the so called "waterfall" up by the center vents and pull out. It just snaps in place. The whole piece from the upper vents down to the clock will snap out. Then unplug your clock and remove the 4 screws holding your radio in.

MIne only seems to have one when the A/C is on and I am at a red light. As soon as I start to move it goes away. I am going to have the dealership fix it. It is very loud.

mines got around 3000 miles, and I have a rattle in the center console area that is most prominent when I accelerate, and one right behind my left ear on the drivers door somewhere around where the seatbelt meets the frame.

it blows, they're getting worse, I'm gonna take it in...

I totally have the right-by-your-left-ear rattle and the little sneaky comparment by my left knee has started to rattle. Ryan thinks he knows how to fix the compartment rattle but I haven't told him about the left ear rattle yet.......

i have to say this since you dont want to take it to the dealer and i work at one if you take it to them they will fix it if its under warrenty (which im sure it is) so no cost to you and you can help somebody get some hours. the reason i say this is because where i live we are slow ( i only turned 22 hours last week ) and i will admitt noises arent as much fun to do but it can help pay the bills

bf has 12000 on his and has a rattle too try pressing down on the furthes edge away from you . infront of the vents. thats where the rattle comes from. or its inside behind the nobs for the ac controle. take your pick.

Recently turned over 5k miles after 7 months and acquired a second annoying dash rattle so I finally took it in.

They had the car for the entire day, but so far so good. They seemed to have fixed them. The service advisor called me at noon and said they tried a couple things but "still hear a ton of rattles in the dash" and may have to keep it overnight. Fortunately they finished it up around 5pm and I was able to pick it up that evening.

Here is what they wrote on the invoice:

Test drove on freeway and confirmed multiple rattles in dash/stereo area. Test drove with technician to help pinpoint location of rattles. Loudest rattle coming from windshield defroster vent in dash. Rattle also heard from stereo trim. Rattles also present at both a-pillar trim panels. Removed upper dash pad and all necessary components. Remove center air ducting and inspected for cause of rattle. Defroster vent case halves were not fitting together tightly. Insulated case halves with felt tape strips to prevent internal rattles. Insulated outside of defrost vent with felt tape strips where it meets inside of upper dash pad to stop from rattling against dash. Insulated defroster vent where it meets the center air conditioning duct to prevent rattles from between the two pieces of ducting. Partially installed upper dash pad and test drove to confirm rattle from center of dash was no longer present. Insulated both a-pillar trim pieces where they meet the outside edge of upper dash pad to stop rattles from both a-pillar trim pieces. Insulated instrument cluster finish panel retainer with felt tape strips to prevent rattles from between panel retainer and dash pad. Insulated inside of stereo finish panel and finish panel clips to insure a tight fit between finish panel and retainer and to insure no rattles would come from between the two pieces. Reinstalled trim pieces and other components removed during the process of removing dash pad. Test drove and confirmed no rattles present from dash or stereo area.

That was my first ever Scion service experience, but second at that dealer having Toyota service done on a previous rig. Overall I'm pleased. Typically I avoid the dealer but for free (warranty work) ya can't complain too much.

Ya know, its almost funny, but I read this thread yesterday and said to myself "I'm glad I havent heard that rattle yet". Sure enough, this morning on my way to the store, I hear a faint rattle coming from the dash.

Let this be a warning to anyone else that reads this thread. Beware of the curse! lol

What??? I can't hear you over my exhaust and the subs! ;)

Seriously, just in the winter... it pops alot then. There was something posted earlier on in this thread about a kit the dealer can put in to fix that if you complain enough...

Speaking of AC, mine stoped working correctly. It would work for 2 minutes, then go away.:crybaby2: After 7 or 8 minutes it would come back on! Then go away again- I finally got fed up and rolled down the windows and let hot air blow in. AC should be covered by warranty right? How about the rattle?
