I know theres some one out there alot better then myself at building a sound system soooo NOW is the time for your calling...

I am looking at building a system for my tC and I prefer SQ over SPL, but im not sure what to get.
I've looked into the JL's: Single 13w7v2, Single 12w7v2, or maybe two 12w3v2.
I've also looked into kicker: Two 12" L5, or either single or dual 12" L7's. I've heard the new comps are good too, but don't know much on them.

I know very little about elemental design, mtx, infinity, and roxford fosgate, so haven't really looked into them.

Amps I have absolutely no clue about so I need a real big clue there.

I will also be running off of a stock head unit, but I have done some research and some people say that it isn't a problem to splice in where needed.

Bottom line: I am putting a budget of about $750 - 850 give or take for everything.

Please input.

what all are you wanting to get for the 750 - 850? I know you want to stick with the factory head unit which will work fine. Are you just wanting to just add some bass or are you also wanting to upgrade your door speakers?

You mentioned possibly getting a 13W7 but that retails around $1000. Even if you find a good deal on ebay or somewhere you will still be spending 600+ on it and you will still need an amplifier, an amplifier installation kit, a sub enclosure, a line out converter so you can integrate with your OEM radio, and labor.

What type of music do you listen to?
Does your tC have the front door components with the tweeter by the door handle?
How much cargo room are you willing to give up?

I will be glad to help you alot more after you answer these questions.

I have a friend at cooper electronics here local that will sell me brand new with waranty for $700.

I can do the install myself, I know my way with wires so count out labor, Amplifier yes i do still need but have no clue, amp kit i can get the top monster cable 2 gauge for $30 through my parents wholesale business, and the line out converter I will need.

My tC is all stock radio, to the 2k6 specs.
I'm willing to give up the majority of the cargo, but would like to retain some being I commute between home and college on weekends and need to take things back and forth.

yes the w7's are amazing but an amp to power them will be much more than the budget of your system.

For 800 bucks you can get 2 12's and an amp and still have money left over for a new headunit from ED.

I suggest 2 of the 13ov.2
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=35
and a nine.1
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=44

i've been talking to chris and ben over at ED to get us a scikotic discount and if i can do that those prices will go down significantly.

With that set up you'll be loud and ED is known for their sound quality.

how would you run that amp for those subs? Run a crossover to get the 900 watts with the two dual 2 ohm voice coil 13ov.2

Looks like that nine.1 can handle up to a 7v input so you should be able to get away without using a line output converter, just stick RCA tips on the ends of your speaker leads and plug them into the amp. Be shure your amp gain is turned all the way down.

When you get it all hooked up gimme a call, I'll come set your amp levels for you. :kid:

What kind of discount? they offer the 15% off when you buy an amp and subwoofer, is it better than that? I am looking at buying a subwoofer, couple amps, and the 6500s from them.

if you wanna go with jl, but wanna use that budget i say go with 2 w3's of any size, then a 500/1, if you get a good deal from a dealer that should be right around your budget cap, but don't buy it online, if you do and shit happens you don't have a warranty

You get a much bigger discount than 15% from ED. If you want to add a sub stage to your system, a Nine.1 and 2 13Ov.2 would be $315 for the amp (compared to $350) and $135 each for the sub (compared to $195) which would be $585 plus shipping. If you're wanting a single sub setup, a Nine.2x amp would be $225 and the sub would be $135, totalling $360 plus shipping. You would also need a box for the sub, a wiring kit and a line-out converter which will provide the signal to the amp to get the bass.

ED offers two lines of subs, soon to be 3. The Kv.2 is their budget line of subs but it sounds anything but. I have 2 10" Kv.2 subs being powered off of 1000 watts and the bass is tight for rock/techno music and puts out smooth bass me for rap music (although I'm replacing my setup for an 18" for the sick lows :) ). Their Ov.2 line is their high-end product which many people say is comparable to the W6 line of JL subs. They accept more power and get louder than the Kv.2 but they're a little more pricey. ED is working on a W7 competitor called the Av.2 which they hope to release by the end of this year and will take the 1200 watts from their mono-block amp, the Nine.1.

well on the package builder itself, it dispalys a 15% discount.

So after a little reasoning, heres what i think I'll get.
2 13ov.2 ~ $650
1 nine.1 (above)
Prefab box through wholesaler ~ $65
Monster Cable 2000 watt - ebay ~ $85

$800 so far. What kind of line-out converter do you all recommend? Also how do we get the Scikotic discount? I didn't see eD under scikotic supporters.
//edit I was looking on eD and they have the Tsunami 2ch line-out conveter for $16, whatcha think?

another thing, I was looking for a cheaper wire kit and have heard a few things about http://www.knukonceptz.com/
The amp says it draws a max of 130 amps so if i got a cable through knukonceptz, it says that the specs are http://www.knukonceptz.com/assets/pdf/PowerWireSpec.pdf and on the table, could I get away with the kol4 or would i need the 0awg? reason I ask is they're sold out of the 1/0 gauge, but have the 4.

If you sign up on their forum, www.icixsound.com, which is also linked from their website you'll get their special forum discount which would reflect the prices I've posted. I use Knu Kolossus wires in my car, 1/0 from battery to distribution blocks and 4 gauge to both of my amps. The amp's current draw is around 100 amperes at full power so the 4 gauge will fit your application just fine.

sweet thanks for the hookup. Btw what is the main difference between dual 2 ohm and dual 4 ohm? Is it just to fit the stable ohmage of the amp? or is there any sq difference?

z-lite

There is no SQ difference, it just gives you more flexibility when wiring the sub to an amp. If you want to go dual subs with a nine.1, get dual 4 ohm

all of that sounds good except the "Prefab box" part. Spring the extra $$ for a custom built enclosure that actually fits your car and will get the full performance those subs are capable of.

You can customize a sealed or vented box on their site, this link (http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/boxbuilder.php?tab=sealed) for sealed and this (http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/boxbuilder.php?tab=vented) for vented. You choose the sub you want to design for, the # of subs, and the volume of the box. I designed a sealed box of A = 12, B = 28, C = 14 which will fit under the trunk cover if you have one and if you don't have the Scion trunk carpet. If you do have the carpet, make C = 13.5 and you're set. The box I put together with those numbers came up to $131 plus shipping. I had ED make my box and it was a quality build and they're making my 18" sub box with bracing and flush mounted.

Ok you stated that you want a sq set up and the first thing you thought about is subs. Start with the front stage I would recommend changing the head unit as well.

I got everything done for the time being, I installed an alpine CDA-9856, one eD 13ov.2, custom built 30hz tuned ported box(thanks michael aka spl2k) and tsunami wires and it is bitchin. Next I am edeading and then upgradeing the stock speakers. but being a college student now, my cash flow has been castrated. :(
