For some reason I'm getting a whistling sound through my rear speakers. The tone variates depending on the RPMs of my transmission. This is a very recent occurance - ever since I put my woofer in a proper sub box.

If you installed a sub box .. I'm going to assume you also installed an amplifier. Often times this whistling noise comes from a poor ground within the stereo install, other times its a poor quality set of RCA cables. And if you have an xB the noise can even be coming from the wiring cluster behind your radio because those wires sit extremely close to the factory harness and cause noise.

So as you can see there is no easy answer to your problem. I would start with your head unit, try pulling it out while its on and see if the noise goes away the further it is from the harness, next check and possibly provide better grounds for your entire setup, then try a better set of rca's and make sure they are run on the opposite side as the power cables, the same holds true for speaker wires, neither should ever be run in parallel with power cables.

That should help, if not let us know and we'll keep trying to sniff out the problem.

Thanks for the info. The most logical answer in my situation is my RCA set up... I'm Captain Ghetto! (coupled two 4' RCAs for my rear speakers to my amp, and I guess moving the sub around caused the RCA coupler to hit frame somewhere.

 Glad to see you can admit your problem .. if thats the case consider taping up the rca ends, or go one step above ghetto and heat shrink the connection to avoid possible grounding .. GL

I've known that I needed to replace it, but there wasn't an issue until recently. So I'll just buy a four channel RCA set.
