Good morning Scikotics,
I am about to wire up my amp and I have a question about where to get the signal to turn on the amp. I am running the upgrade Pioneer head unit, and I don't see a lead for the power antenna to signal the amp to turn on. What do you guys do? Do you just run this to a "keyed" source?
Thanking you in advance for the answers to this deep-dark well kept secret of the universe!

Well an aftermarket alarm should most definitly have an amp turn on line somewhere in the harness. That is, unless your talking about the stock upgraded pioneer. Then what i did until i got my alpine HU was if you get to the ignition harness which is easily accessed by removing the two screws you see when you turn the steering wheel and pulling off the lower plastic trim piece. Look for a gray wire, this is the "accessory line" which is activated by the car either running or being turned onto the accessory postion. Simpy T-tap this wire and run it to where ever the amp is.

It's usually labeled P.Con for the remote power line on aftermarket H/Us.
Charles, I think you mean headunit or stereo, not alarm lol

Run it to your ignition wire on your existing wiring harness. Not the 12 volt, or switch but to you ignition wire. That is what tells the Head unit to turn on.

Thanks for the info. I did fail to mention that I am using the factory upgrade Pioneer. I guess that I have to cut into factory wiring harnesses, but it looks like they've left me no choice. I really don't understand why they would make an upgraded unit so that amps can be utilized, but failed to put a way to signal the amp. They have the RCA output jacks, but no signal wire. Strange...
Thanks again for guiding me in this direction. I would have hoped that there was another way, so I'm off to the shop manned with a wire stripper, connecters and the will to survive!!!!

Just use a t-tap! No wire splicing necessary!

Oh gee you all are gonna really flame me right now, but what exactly is a t tap? I'm no gonna lie I am horrible with wiring. I ran some aftermarket fog lights from the fuse box as a power source and my wires started smoking. So yeah what do you all mean by a T Tap?

No I wouldn't cut the factory wiring I would strip it back and solder the wire on which is the correct way to connect wires in an environment that moves around all the time.

We don't do flaming here like other boards do. We're all here to give a hand and helpful advice.

These are wire T Taps connects 2 wires to make a splice..Main wire in the back other wire up front crimp down on the metal bar the close the flap when done.....
Those aren't T taps, but work similar. T taps require an insulated male spade to be crimped onto the wire that you are trying to add and a the T tap it self goes onto the factory wire in this case then the two connectors connect.

Yeah I made that mistake quite often myself. Same concept just not as easy as to disconnect. I am running LED's through the back of my dash so Any time I need to take it apart I just undo the t taps and it makes for an easy removal without cutting wiring.

Well first you dont use the antenna lead... if you do this your amp will not be on when you are playing a cd...
Thier should be a remote lead (Ussually blue) and yes a key'd source can work.

THeir is a wire there... you just need to find it.. get a volt tester and find the right one.
