Today i swapped the lil speedo plastic thing with my venom one and now when i start my car the speedo needle does not cycle thru the miles nor does it read at all while in idle. can someone please explain how this happened? i didnt touch anything that i could think of that would stop if from working. any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and the RPMs and fuel work fine

Post pics - let's see what you did :) I had mine replaced; swapped the speedo with the tach :)

Did you pop off the needles to put the faceplate on? If so you should have noted their position because they go a certain way.

i did which is why the fel and RPMs work fine. idk whats causing the Speed neddle not to work right. is there something that shows exactly how it should line up? i mean if the car is off its always in the same position right?

I'm now confused - in your first post you said "....nor does it read at all while in idle". Just FYI - the speedometer needle will not move if the car is idle. You have to be moving for it to move - LOL :)

ANYHOO - the needles fit in any position - you just have to line it up so it's reporting the correct speed/tach/fuel. We are talking about a 1st gen, correct?

Only things I can think of is:

Is the hole in your insert a little too small, thus hindering the speed needle to NOT move freely? Is the fit too tight?

Is the mechanism even trying to move the needle? ie- take it apart again - take off all faceplates and put JUST the needle on (with no faceplates) - start it up and see if it still malfunctions?

If the needle still isn't moving with no faceplate on it- take further apart and see if the ribbon cable that plugs on to the "motherboard" is fully secure on the board. I know that only a few pins on the ribbon cable are responsible for the speed needle - just throwing ideas out there I guess.

Try all this stuff. If still a no go. . . . . try something else? LOL!!

also, you could have pushed the speedo needle down too far, try just spacing it out a bit more from the face. other than that, bud-D listed all other possible scenarios!

Dude!! Did you get this working correctly? Just curious what the fix was!
