Saw this while changing my oil last week. Looks like oil, leaking from up high on the back of the motor.

Any body else seen this happen? Or have any idea of what could be leaking?
Thanks, Rob

No I haven't but question is. Do you always change your oil or has someone else changed it in the past? Pull the engine cover off and see if oil has been spilt around the oil filler area. maybe oil was spilt and it is running down the side of the engine.
Thats what I hope.
Was the oil low? If oil was low my indicate a leak if not low then may just be spilt oil mentioned above.

I have done the last 3-4 changes. I pulled the cover off and checked for spillage from the filler, but didn't see any on the "top" of the head. The leak seem to start "close" to the top behind the motor. Good idea though.
My oil dipstick is impossible to read, so I never really know how much oil is in my car. Sounds like that is common.
I may clean the fluid off completely and see if any more starts to leak.. Or just drop it off at the dealer.

wipe off the block and keep an eye on it, if you're having a hard time reading the dip stick. if it comes back drop it off at the dealership if its still under warranty. Let them worry about it.

How is it hard to read the dip stick? Not beaing rude just asking what is causing your issue. (like oil buildup mainly in one spot or jsut that it has no actual lines and words) The xD dipsticks have two little bumps on the dipstick. the lower bump (towards end of dipstick) is the add mark, the upper one (towards handle) is your full mark.
I agree wipe it clean and then see if it comes back. Sounds like the valve cover maybe leaking.

Dip sticks are super easy, if they work. Mine just shows a big oil smear extending a few inches past the full line. Since new... Bitched to the dealer about once and they thought they could tell where the level was, but that was bs. Sounds like a common issue with that motor, from what i have read.

Ok yeah I know what you are talking about. mine has like a line of oil going way past the full indicator but I read it from where the main amount is at on the dipstick. if that makes since. I don't know if your line is bigger but mine is right the edge and is less than half the width on the dipstick.

The dealer found the timing cover and valve cover to be leaking. About a $900 fix. Fidelity is sending out a rep to inspect and see if my ext. warranty is going to cover the repair.....
And they said the same thing about the dipstick that other dealers have said. "thats just how they are"

It better be covered since that is a normal wear item.
