Ok, so I like to think that I know a good bit about my toaster, but Im am freaking lost here, Yesterday I disconnected my battery like I always do whenever Im messing with wiring, the only wires i messed with was the wire that goes to my strobes in my headlight, and all i did was move them around, so that I could hide them better, but then when I hooked everything back up, I got a check engine sign, vcs and trac control all lit up, and to top it off, when I rev my engine, or even drive it, only goes to around 3ooo rpms, and then stutters almost like a tranny is slipping. Im guess its a sensor, maybe the oxygen sensor, but I have no clue, and to be frank Im afraid to take it to toyota because of a; COST, and b: Im not sure if I trust their mechanics, just bc of the way they have over filled my oil each time they have changed it. so if you or anyone else reading this has any input, please please please do share!!!!:icon_wacko::doh:

Im hoping its just the oxygen sensor, which will only be about 115 to replace. Im just going to take it autozone and let them hook up the code reader, and see where I go from there, thank you anyhow Mrs Bridezilla lol 8^)

i would say undo everything you did and see if it is still doing it... if it was working fine before, and all of a sudden its not, before you start buying new parts, reverse the last thing you did just to make sure that isnt the problem... if it still does it, then move on to the next solution...

Yeah, good point, Blake!

Blake great minds think alike lol, thats the first thing i did yesterday still not any better, thank you very much for your idea though, so I called Autozone to see if they charge to read the error codes, they said no charge at all, just bring it up and they will hook it up and read it, so I then called Toyota of Greenville and asked them the exact same thing, they said oh well you need to bring it in and we will charge you 90.00 plus tax just to read the codes........ Go figure huh

Yeah, hit up AutoZone, get the readouts and I'm sure we can help narrow it down for ya, save some $$$!

To add to the description, when I do rev my engine up, and it makes that gasping sound like its trying to suck air, you can smell gas, you know like a lawnmower engine when you start it up, the gas exhuast you smell, not sure if that helps with the description but there you go, thanks again for everyones input

VVT-i kicks in at 2900rpm... It sounds like that could be the issue. I assume you tried to reset the ECU again (disconnect the ( - ) terminal of the battery for a while, then let it idle for 5-10 mins.
There was also some xB's affected by a VVT-i timing gear problem. If it's still under the 5yr/60k mile marker, then take it to the dealer.

Check your MAF sensor... If you were messing around with wiring, you may have accidentally touched some live wiring to the intake/maf sensor and blew it out...

I agree with above, When I was working in the engine bay installing a CAI, on of the MAF wires got inadvertently loosend. It was loosened to a point where my car would start and run fine, but when road vibration kicked in, it when into limp mode. Luckly one of the guys at the dealership was cool about it and replaced it under warantee.

hey you hit the nail on the head, it is indeed my MAF, it seems it shorted out, I tested my buddies MAF from her xA, after she thought of the whole MAF being bad, as well as Testing hers, so I must say this CHICK KICKS ASS!!!!!, Im glad to call her "mom", anyhow, she also pointed out that our warranties cover those sensors, for 8 years or 80000 miles which ever comes first, so Im going to attempt to have them replace it under warranty tomorrow, and if for some reason they try to deny warranty saying its because of my CAI, im going to tell them to prove it and show me how that damaged my MAF, worse comes to worse, Ill be stuck paying 89 for a new MAF, either way Im just happy that I know whats wrong with my toaster!!!, I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS HAD ANY INFO THAT THEY HAVE TOLD ME ON THIS SITUATION, AS WELL AS WANT TO BOW DOWN TO SWEE AND HER KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAF SENSOR AND EVERYTHIN ELSE SHE KNOWS!!!!!!!!!

I had those same lights come on in my car also after a jump start and I ended up taking it into service and they had to replace my ABS module and some other little brain. My buddy at the dealership said it would have been about $8,000 if warranty didn't cover it! It blows my mind that 2 parts can be half of what I paid for it!!!:new_blowingup:

You got to be kidding me. My box is at the dealership right now and they are replacing my MAF. My box is just under 40K. They are charging me close to $400 to replace it. How can I proove to them that it's under the 8 year 80000 warenty like you said. I'm just waiting for my wife to get home so I can go pick it up!

they are saying its not, 8/80k now, they are saying that it is 3/36 adn why in the world are you paying 400.00 you can go to autozone and get the part of 150 then when you turn in your old one you will pay close to 95 in total after a refund, the kid who told me that it was 8 and 80 turns out to be a salesperson who had no business telling me anything about warranty, or atleast that is what the general manager said before he hung up one, man, give your local autoparts a call and see how much yu can get the part for

if it wasnt installed by the dealer, the chances of them warrantying a part that was tampered with by a uncertified mechanic will be slim to none. but good luck regardless.
