Does anyone know how wide of a tire can be (safely) put on stock tC rims? I have a set of stockers that my winter tires are usually on, but am looking at getting some R-compounds for autocross and track days. Just want to know how wide is possible (I'd like to run at least a 235 width) on stock rims or if I need to go and buy another set of rims for racing.

I'd suggest looking at the spec of the tires(usually on the manufacturer's website) and it should tell you what width they suggest for the tire. If you are within the specs you will be good.

i guess that may help. I know its not "whats the widest i can go" but it will tell you if how wide you want to go will fit.

a 225-45-17 will work. lil wider but not much taller.

a 235-45-17 will work. wider but almost an inch taller.

just going off sizes from Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 tire size. (just picked a random tire)

maybe a 235-40-17 would be better. the lower profile will compensate for the wider tire.

Basically find the tires you want and check the specs on them.

If your wanting them to be stock height but wider then 24.6 inches is the overall height to shoot for.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for looking into that for me. The tires don't need to be stock height, smaller would actually be better for racing. I will have to do some checking on the tires I have available to me to see if they will work or not.
