Need help deciding

Hello everyone,

I guess this is my first post. Not sure if this is the right forum. I have been eyeing Scions for awhile now. I'm having trouble deciding to get either the xB or xD. There are a couple of things that are preventing me from jumping off the fence.

For the xB (2nd gen), I have been reading about the windshield crack issue. From my research there are many people who have had cracks. I was wondering if was any solution that would help prevent them and/or if Toyota is going to address the issue in the next model year.

For the xD, I was wondering if any owners were satisfied with the amount of power. The xD has a smaller engine compared to the other two but has better gas mileage. One other question is for the people who have upgraded the speaker system and added a subwoofer. If I were to get either the B or D, I would want to add a subwoofer. Is there an easy place to install one in the xD? I've seen people talking about having one under the front seats.

I'm really leaning towards the xB, but my mom hates the look of it. She would want me to either get the xD, or the new Corolla or Matrix. I think the xB would be better in the long run since it has so much space. However, the whole windshield crack issue is putting me off. Were any of you XB2 owners hesitant to buy it assuming you knew about the issue?

I can't tell you about the xD or 2nd gen xB, but i can tell you the 1st gen xB had some problems with cracked windows. The 2nd gen xB it totally redesigned and i don't think they have that problem ( i could be wrong cause i don't spend any time in the 2nd gen forum).

I say get the xB.

I would get the xB. Mainly cuz if that issue was like that for lots and they called it a recall than you should have nothing to worry bout.

I'm going to wait and see if the new 2009's have changes. If not, then I will get the 2008.

Also, do you think a strut bar will help reinforce the frame to prevent flexing?

since both are a brand new model for 08, i doubt much if anything will change for 09. I would get the one you like better :D :welcome:!!!

Welcome to the site! Both models have their pros and cons. Just pick one that you like best. :smile:

For the second gens I actually prefer the xD. My 1st gen box with mods can't even dream of keeping up with most stock xD's. You'll notice that they have an excellent power to weight ratio and the 1.8L is a very solid motor. Also since gas is nearing $4/gal better fuel economy is a must.....well depends how you're gonna drive it too. :P

Pick which one you like best. I have a xD & xB (1st Gen) & love them both.

If you like the XB for the amount of room, then go for it. Plus the fact that your mom doesn't like it as much just means that you don't have to worry about her borrowing it :dance:

To the OP you are right, I too think there are many pluses and minuses for both the new xD and xB, but I still like both of them even though lol

The xD has enough power to be more peepy then the xa and xb first gen... Its a good motor and a good platform to start on..

Honestly you cant go wrong with either choice...

As for the windshield on the 2nd gen B... well the first gen had a similar problem... I think it just somthing you have to deal with.

Well i LOVE my 2nd Gen and Have NO problems with my windshield... So go for the XB Lots o power, I beat 08 civic SI's all day long and love the room it has, besides I am sure if you get a cracked windshield that toyota will be glad to replace it!

before i ever joined this club i thought that the xb and xa models were dumb looking and loved the tc. i probably waited a year before i got mine cause i just kept reserching. Its all up to the buyers opinion not someone else. Get what you love and love it.

xD has plenty of power, but the 2nd Gen xB has a tC engine in it!
