Well, Christmas is right around the corner, and its about time to start looking for some boost I think, but first I have some questions that I'm hoping yall can help me out with.
I'm looking at the Dezod S1 Bolt on Turbo kit for my 09 Manual tC with 2X,XXX miles on it. Here's some questions I have:
1) My buddies tell me that once I'm boosted, my cars engine wont last long on stock internals. What experience do people have with this? Running 8 PSI, what kind of engine life can I expect?
2) After getting the Dezod turbo kit, I know that I'll have everything I need except a tune, a new clutch, gauges, etc. I know that the tune is a necessity, but how long can I go before I get a new clutch? What is the purpose of the gauges, (obviously to tell me what boost I have, but why do I need to know this?) can I go without them for some time?
3) How difficult is the install? For someone who has installed CAI, exhaust, underbody lights, subs amp door speakers etc. How long will this install take me?
4) According to Dezod, I don't need to weld the oil pan tap, but I've also heard some people say I should for reliability purposes. Is this true? What did you do?
5) How bad would it be for me to run the kit off a TRD exhaust for a while before being able to afford a new, larger one?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me, I really appreciate it. I hope I can get these questions answered and be that much closer to getting the turbo kit.
Thanks again

Ok, I don't have a tc but I do have forced induction experience, so I'll answer what i can.
1) Boosting your stock engine will do absolutely no damage at all if you do it right. 99% of boosted engines blow up because somebody that had no business messing with it messed with it. Leave the boost reasonable (8 is good), and let someone with experience with tuning tune it, and leave it alone and you will be just fine. A proper tune makes all the difference in the world, too lean you blow it up, too rich it runs like $*&@.
2)Clutch depends on how you drive it. You could stay with the stock clutch a while if you don't boost it a lot, but theres no fun in that. The gauges tell you the vitals of the engine, and can help you catch problems early to avoid a potential disaster. i would do oil pressure, water temp, boost, and a wideband o2 sensor. Oil pressure is the life blood of your engine, you lose that your screwed, but if you have a gauge, you can shut it down before any major damage occurs (sometimes). The wideband 02 sensor is a key component in tuning your car, some tuners have their own that they put in the tailpipe, but it's really great to have one installed in the car, again, it can help catch an issue early, if the car starts leaning out, you can see something is not right and get off the throttle.
3)Install in a day, maybe a weekend depending on mechanical inclination and tool availability.
4) I imagine welding the tap is for extra safety and reliability. It's one of those things that you probly shouldn't cheap out on.
5) Running it with a TRD exhaust is just fine, no problem there.

Thanks Tim, I appreciate it. Yeah from what I've heard it really is all in the tune, and spend the money and get it done from the best place you can find, which sounds good to me.
Thanks for the info on the clutch and gauges, gauges sound like a necessity that I shouldn't skimp on.
If anyone else has the Dezod kit on the tc, I'd love some input no what you did with the oil tap, as well as any other info you have.
Thanks again,

First of all, everything timindabox had to say is on the dot. I just wanted to throw in a few things.
Stock internals are good up to 10 psi for a daily. I've met guys with over 40k (boosted) with stock internals at 10 psi. The Dezod kit comes standard with an 8 psi wastegate spring. Ask them to upgrade it if you want, and they will do so free of charge. I did this and I'm personally running 9 for the last 10k with no problems. But I met a guy at SR 6 this past weekend running 12 psi on a Dezod S1 for the past 20k miles on his daily and no issues. It's all in the tune. Pay the extra money if you have to.
As far as a new clutch goes, @ 10 psi, my stock clutch lasted about 2-3k miles. But I dogged it pretty good. Reguardless, have a new clutch on order. You don't want to get caught with your pants down.
The kit is not hard to install. Just make sure you have someone knowledgeable with you or accessable. Dezod will provide a ton of help, but it's better to have someone there with you. Just invite some peeps and grab some beers; I'm sure someone will help.
WELD THE OIL PAN TAP!!! I just took mine to a local shop. $20. no reason for you not to do this.
For a 8-10 psi tC, 2.5" exhaust is best. So just keep the TRD and add a megan or tsudo midpipe. You'll be fine.
GOOD LUCK!

Np. If you got any more questions, feel free. I'm sure there's plenty of guys that would be more than happy to help you, including myself. Also FYI, when you install the Dezod intercooler, remember that the mounting bracket side of it (where the bolts go) is the top. You'll know what I'm talking about when you receive it. lol.

Ha, thanks Kazuma I'm looking forward to the install. I really do appreciate it and I have no doubt I'll have some more questions for you.
