Hey everyone i have an 06 tc with 60,000 miles on it. I have a cold air intake and a custom cat back exhaust, i noticed within the past few months that when i drive on the freeway going about 70mph my rpm's are up to around 3400..im thinking this is kind of high and my gas mileage has been getting worse and worse. I bought new spark plugs because i bought the car used and am assuming they have never been changed and i also asked the parts guy at toyota and he thinks it might be the fuel filter..

any ideas?

Thanks.

What is your definition of bad gas mileage? I'm assuming that you have a 5 speed if your at 3400 on the interstate, which is about average for a manual tc. The fuel filter is in the fuel tank and never really causes a problem, and when it does poor fuel economy isnt a symptom. Did the fuel economy get worse after you put on the intake? some systems will hurt fuel economy overall.

Yes its a 5 speed, and i put the intake on maybe a few weeks after i bought it but a 3hr drive usually uses around half a tank. I'm just wondering if this is right around what everyone else is getting?

ok, so 3 hours @ 70 on the interstate? 210 miles total, tc has a 15 gallon tank i believe, so 1/2 tank 7.5 gallons used, I figured it up to getting 28 mpg, epa rates it at 27 mpg highway. I think your doing pretty good.

3400 seems just a tad high. I was thinking that it was about 3200 rpms at 70MPH. In any case, I agree with Tim here. I think you're just fine.

I've always said that this tC could use a 6th gear for highway travel...

Fuel filter is in the sending unit. Don't think so.

What type of fuel economy are you seeing? Tone down your driving which will help as well.

mine runs around 3000 rpm a little above 60 miles an hour with the same cai/exhaust setup you have. it still gets great gas mileage but in mine particularly I get about 5-8 miles per gallon less in the winter than I do in summer.

Tone down your driving ...

This coming from the leading producer in tc performance parts!

j/k. I know this was taken out of context, but I couldn't help it. lol.

Well, it's quite obvious that if you beat the snot out of the car, it will get poor fuel economy. Most people don't see it that way.

It is ironic though.... :boxing:
