I'm trying to install my midpipe, and these stupid bolts to the s-pipe are torqued to like 150lb/ft - my breaker bar got one of them loose, but toyota decided to make this seam in the exhaust in the least accessible area...right between the frame and the front sway bar.

OH, and since they decided to put a cat in our mid-pipe, I couldn't pay a muffler shop to install this for me if I wanted to, so I have to figure this shit out myself.

I'm extremely irritated - my car's on jackstands right now - I'm gonna heat it with a torch and see if I can break it loose. If not, I guess I'm stuck with the fucking stock mid pipe. This is bullshit - who designed these fucking cars?

Over dramatize a bit? :p

Spray the bolts with some good penetrating oil and let them sit for a while. This should be done anytime you take exhaust bolts out, since they tend to bind up like that.

If you take off the plastic splash guard, it makes it easier to get to. Just use a wrench with an extension and it will pop right off. Impacts make stubborn bolts much easier too.

lol they seem to of came off easy on my bros tc, not a single problem. you think that is irritating, check out the new 08 jeep liberty's oil filter placement.

it's been soaking in liquid wrench since I started.

and tony, I'm referring to the bolts that hold the midpipe to the s-pipe...right by the rear motor mount area.

The bolts already rounded off, so tomorrow I'm gonna blast it with a torch and get my punch out and see if I can spin it that way...I'll keep you guys posted.

Yea, I just used a breaker bar and they popped right off. Six point sockets are great insurance for tough bolts. I have rounded off many bolt heads with 12 point sockets, but not one with a 6 point socket. Plus a nice long breaker bar helps out a lot.

I sent jenny off to o'reilly with my breaker bar to get me a socket for it. I had her take the breaker bar because it was easier than trying to teach her what socket to buy...assuming the o'reilly guy would give her a 6-point, given the fact that she needed it for a breaker bar and I've never used a 12-point with a breaker bar....she got in right before they closed, so I couldn't send her back....and sure as shit, the 12-point is what fucked up my bolt.

I dunno what I'm gonna do - I'll probably just pay a shop to remove the bolt...my torch won't fit under the car upright, and it doesn't stay lit on it's side...what a weekend...

took me 15sec to take my bolts off. sprayed them with pb blaster and used a regular 3/8 ratchet and a couple of 3in extensions. i cant find any of my 6in ones.

I put it all back together - I'm gonna see if I can get a muffler shop to remove it, then I'll try again.

I think I am going to put my s-pipe on this weekend. I will have to get me some PB Blaster.

My bolts were cross threaded from the factory. I can see now you could never be a mechanic getting this pissed off at exhaust bolts. You should try to work on some american garbage!

Sounds like bum luck. They were a pita for me, but doable with hand tools.
