OK - so - we're going to be taking out the front door speakers of your 2006 Scion xB, making baffle templates for 6 1/2" speakers out of 1/2" MDF and placing the speaker back into the door using stock wiring (still using the stock deck).

TOOLS NEEDED
Drill wth Drill bits
Socket set
Philips and Flathead screwdrivers
Jigsaw
Soldering iron
A few nuts, bolts and washers (sorry - don't know what size I used)

TAKE OFF DOOR PANEL: Sorry, no pictures on how to take it off - but - there are 2 philips screws, one inside the door opener, and one in the bottom of the door handle. Take those out and simply pull the door panel off (it snaps off all around the outside).

TAKE OUT SPEAKER: There are 3 rivets holding in the speaker. With your window rolled UP drill out the rivets with a small drill bit. You may have to wedge a screw driver under the front of the rivet; it will start spinning shortly after drilling in. Simply pop them out when drilled through then remove the speaker:

REMOVE SPEAKER FROM STOCK BAFFLE HOUSING: I used an exacto knife and cut out the front of the speaker, removed it, then cut all the plastic from the inner-housing of the stock baffle until I ws left with just the outer shell. Do the same thing with the rear speaker (see previous DIY post I made in this forum on how to get to the rear speakers):

CREATE BAFFLE TEMPLATE: Again - this is just how I did it- i'm sure there's a better way, but.... I traced both front and rear baffles on paper, then traced a circle in the middle the size of my new speakers (I put 6 1/2" in both front and rear stock locations - back is originally 5 1/4"). I then traced the baffle on to the MDF and centered the paper on the outline to trace the center circle and mounting holes:

CUT CENTER HOLE FIRST, THEN DRILL SCREW HOLES OUT: I drilled a 1/2" hole inside the center circle in order to jigsaw the center hole out, drilled out the 3 holes in each baffle then cut the outside of the baffle:

REAR BAFFLES: For the rear baffles I actually counter-sunk the drilled out holes and used the stock bolts that held the stock speakers in. This made the stock bolts flush with the baffle so the bigger speaker would fit more easily. NOTE- The hole back there is 4" wide by 5" tall, so - I used a jigsaw and die grinder to trim the narrow speaker hole from the car, making it wider:

(going back to the front)
PULL BACK STOCK SPEAKER WIRE: Front-Left door speaker wires are Purple (neg) and Pink (pos), Front-Right door speaker wires are Blue (neg) and Green (pos). I cut the stock clip off the ends, pulled the wires back through the door and out the speaker hole:

MOUNT THE BAFFLE: Using a few bolts, nuts and washers mount the baffles to the door. Be sure the bolts don't extent TOO far in the inside of the door:

MOUNT THE SPEAKER: I used a soldering iron and soldered the speaker wire to the new speaker then screwed the speaker into the baffle:

CHA-CHING!!!! That's it! Just put your door panel back on and you're in business! :) AGAIN - i'm no pro at this stuff so if any of these steps seem retarded, it's because I probably am.

Just FYI - this was all done in preparation for when I get my amplifier for these 4 speakers. It won't be for a couple months or so and I didn't want to do all of this AND the amp install in one sitting.

Do you still have the paper template? Would be great if you did and could scan them in to post up here in your DIY thread.

i just got done putting in mine and i was able to just drill new holes into the door. and you dont have to sodder them you can strip the wires and crimp them together. however the templates do look really nice and professional
